Art History Lecture w/ Erica Arcudi - Classical Sculpture

An Installment of the Art History related content featured on The FAA Collective

Dear Patrons,

Thank you for your continued support! This week we would like to present you with an Art History Lecture given by Erica Arcudi, a Principal Instructor at The Florence Academy of Art and working painter. Before joining the FAA community Erica received a BA in Classical Archeology from UNC Chapel Hill. In this lecture she uses her expertise to introduce and guide us through five sculptures from Greek antiquity. Through her selection of pieces she shows us how form and communication of emotion developed in sculpture from the Archaic to the Hellenistic period.

This lecture was first presented as a part of the Faculty Lecture series given at The Florence Academy of Art campus in Florence, Italy. The Faculty Lectures are a triannual segment of the Art History Program which includes lectures that take place every Friday at the academy and are always open to the public. More information on lectures can be gained through bulletins posted on The FAA’s social media and e-newsletter.

We hope you thoroughly enjoy this lecture!

The five pieces discussed:

1st Archaic period sculpture

2nd Classical period Doryphoros by Polykleitos

3rd Classical period Marble grave stele of a little girl

4rth Hellenistic period Boxer at Rest

5th Hellenistic period Nike of Samothrace/Winged Victory of Samothrace

Erica Arcudi is a painter from Raleigh, North Carolina as well as a graduate of and Principal Instructor at the Florence Academy Art in Florence, Italy.
