Art History Lecture w/ Tom Richards - Sorolla

An installment in the Art History related content to be featured on The FAA Collective

Dear Patrons,

Thank you for your kind support!

By popular demand, this week we would like to share with you a video lecture created from a recent talk given by Tom Richards, Art History Director of The Florence Academy of Art, on the Spanish painter Joaquin Sorolla.

The material for the lecture recorded at the Florence Academy of Art campus draws on a conference organized by The University of Oxford this past summer, in conjunction with an exhibition that took place at the National Gallery in London.

Richard’s particular contribution to the conference was in reference to Sorolla as a portrait painter.

As the days become shorter in the Northern hemisphere, there is no better time to delve into the world of the master at painting the brilliance of light.

We hope you thoroughly enjoy this condensation of the incredible information presented at the Oxford Sorolla Symposium

Art History lectures take place every Friday at The Florence Academy of Art campus in Florence, everyone is very welcome to join!

Brilliant. Thank you

Answer from our Art History Director Tom Richards: This is the catalogue from the recent exhibition at the National Gallery in London. The technical information is good- although not the main theme. At present there is limited English language scholarship on all aspects of Sorolla and his work. The situation is (slowly) improving! https://www.nationalgallery.co.uk/products/sorolla-spanish-master-of-light-catalogue/p_1047821

Awesome, thank you for this! I love learning art history especially from the perspective of an artist. Most art history books seems to come from a critic's point of view who has not much idea of the technique. Are there any good books on Sorolla you can reccomed?
