In wake of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor's death the black community has reached their breaking point. Racism is something that can no longer be swept under the table until it rears its ugly head in the form of a video recording. Talking about race amongst white parents, black parents and everything in between is something that is long overdue. How we plan to discuss race, privilege, and our history with our kids is a conversation that has to come sooner than most parents think.
We asked Rai King (Diversity Educator and Wife of Shaun King) and Dr. Bentley L. Gibson to join us and all our patrons to discuss these hard topics and give us the tools and insight on how and when to start these conversations. The important role that white moms play and the duty black moms have to empower their kids before the slave narrative inevitably get served to them on a platter must be talked about.
Thank you so much to all the mothers from all races that joined the conversations and who were so open and vulnerable about what they did not know and what they want to learn.
This conversation does not end here. This is the beginning of many more!
Please leave a comment below if you have any topic suggestions to help push these very
important conversations forward. If we want things to change it starts with showing our kids by example and encouraging them to be compassionate leaders of the movement forward.
