The network that made the show had heaps of funds.
They chose to set them up in that room. I suppose it was their idea of a bootcamp?
The reason people were saying that BTS had no money at that stage is that they didn't - so they had no leverage to better the conditions as to what offers, etc they were given. This was an opportunity that they couldn't pass up - it meant exposure even if they had to undergo humiliating or harsh conditions. RM and PD Bang drew the line at the blatant disrespect that was thrown at them in the beginning, and luckily things settled a bit - I can't bare to imagine what would have happened to them if RM hadn't called PD Bang,
Had it been a band with a big company and money behind them - they never would have been treated like that - the networks use those desperate for airtime to undergo the worst treatment.
Though I will say - the Korean idea of a variety show someimtes leaves me bewildered. The stunts and things that celebrities have to do really shocks me - there is no way many of the western stars would submit to some of the things done in the name of entertainment over there.
The idea of humour is different. It doesn't make it wrong - it is just very different. As you noted with all the extra writing on the screen and comments from narrators - it to me almost reminds me of anime applied to variety TV.
