There are Oni and the Kuchisake-Onna in DBD! She is a skin for the Artist, I believe. Kappa are also in Animal Crossing, as well as Redd being a tricky fox. 🥰 Yokai are so interesting! Also, loving the little Hajikkaki now 😭 poor guy.

I was surprised that Trevor didn't make more video game connections for Fredo with well-known examples. Koopas in Mario being based on Kappa being the most obvious one, but also the whole "your money and valuables become leaves" being an integral part of the UI in animal crossing. I didn't know until today that kitsune gained tails as they grew and I realized that's why Tails from Sonic has 2 tails! I also was so confused, as they talked about the Utsuro-Bune, why they didn't mention that they'd done a whole episode on it before! I only just realized that it was Ship Hits the Fan that covered it.

That's a great idea!

Oh right! I totally forgot about this. What an incredible game.

Always fun to see someone dive into yokai with how varied and far reaching they are as a concept. Would have liked a wee bit of a deeper dive into some, particularly oni, as one of the theories surrounding them is that they represent the various tribes that existed throughout Japan at the time before they were subjugated or wiped out.

I was hoping Turbo Granny would be on the list. Even outside of DanDaDan there's quite a bit of lore. Hoping for yokai episode 2.

In the video game Ghost of Tsushima, the Inari spirit is represented by foxes that guide you to hidden Inari shrines scattered across the map. These shrines are often tucked away in places you might not discover on your own. When Jin, the protagonist, prays at one of these shrines, he receives a charm as a reward.

I worked in a college dorm a few years ago and the Asian lady beetle would COVER the south side of the building. And I would find them in my apartment. They remind me of stink bugs, they just exist to be stinky.

Pretty sure that thick snake is in Metal Gear Solid 3. If you’re patient enough, you can catch and eat it. Though, I think completing the game with it in your inventory unlocks a camo or something.

I think the little shame guys sound like slimes from the Dragon Warrior game. Which I remember committing Genocide on as a kid.

For the next movie club if you want to do a yokai movie try the short film Kakurenbo

Apparently I’ve spent my whole life with Asian Lady Beetles thinking they are Ladybugs

Trevor Alfredo please watch DanDaDan it deals with yokai, cryptids, aliens and supernatural powers. It's on Netflix and you won't be disappointed.

Goshawk

It would be cool if fredo lead an episode on Phillipino folklore if he's familiar with it

Hinari_Chan

I hope you do Celtic folklore next

Taku Kajiya

All I could think about in the beginning was river masters and the giant salamander
