This week's episode landed on the 82nd birthday of Mr. Otis Redding, and no further introduction should be necessary,
Out of all the many artists we lost at or around that age of 26, losing Otis has to be one of the most heartbreaking. Listening to to all this face (and heart) melting soul and realizing he was still a fresh young "up and coming" artist when he passed, just starting to come into his own.
Had just recorded "Sitting on the Dock of Bay" days before he passed, drawing from the influence of Sgt Peppers to explore new sounds, as the story goes. Arguing down his label and bandmates who couldn't see the vision, and insisting it would be his biggest hit yet. Which of course it was. But he never got to see it. And we're left to imagine everything he was about to build on that foundation.
What a foundation it is though.
