Added 2023-08-28 21:28:22 +0000 UTCAs you may have noticed if you follow my instagram, I've been inspired by all the 50th Anniversary love to dig through my own crates & hard drives for artifacts to share, and one treat seemed especially apropos to share here my 2005 interview with Jeff Chang, talking about his then newly-released Can't Stop Won't Stop: A History of the Hip-Hop Generation. The interview starts at the 46-minute mark if you want to jump straight to it.
This convo was hella interesting to revisit both as a portal into that early history from Jeff's perspective, and a snapshot of our POV on the culture at this moment in time almost 20 years ago. I'd love to get Jeff back on to see how the 2023 version of this chat would go!
And as a bonus, I also shared a bunch of music and voices from the Can't Stop Won't Stop mix CD Jeff gave out along with the book when it dropped, which is itself a pretty cool journey through the history curated by DJ D Sharp and DJ Icewater. (This mix is also plays a role in one of my absolute favorite hip-hop stories, that I talked about in this speech!)
