USA: LA, SF + MIT

UPDATE: I will be at the "Miracle of Science Bar + Grill" near MIT on Sunday January 14th from 2pm to 3pm. Come and say hi! I'm sure my mystery hunt team will not miss me for  an hour.

UPDATE PS: Thanks to everyone who came and said hello in San Francisco and LA!

Advance warning for a last-minute gig I'm doing in LA this Sunday January 7th! I was just visiting friends and filming maths videos but my frequent co-performer Bec Hill is also going to be in town, so we're putting on An Evening of Unnecessary Detail so people can say hello!

We're being hosted by Flappers Comedy Club in Burbank. 5pm show with myself, Bec and some other guests. I'll be around after to say hi, chat, sign calculators etc. Here is the link to book tickets before they go public: https://www.flapperscomedy.com/shows/evening-of-unnecessary-tbd/72865/

Two days before I'm also hosting a show in San Francisco.  Friday January 5th, 8pm. It's the variety night for the Joint Math Meeting which is also taking place in San Francisco.  So it's not one of my own shows, but I'll be on stage throughout and I'm sure around to say hi after. Details here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/mathematics-a-quick-revue-tickets-744572525467?aff=ebdssbdestsearch

Speaking of JMM, my buddies at Jane Street are putting on an undergraduate lunch on Friday January 7th and I'll also be there. So if you're at JMM and don't mind being recruited at: sign up for free food and say hi. https://forms.gle/cBZAV3fpuuDYzvyC7

Finally: I will then be at the MIT Mystery Hunt in Cambridge,  Massachusetts. https://puzzles.mit.edu/ I'm not doing any work there, it's actually vacation time for me to solve puzzles with some friends. But if you happen to be near MIT and see me: do say hi! If there's enough interest we could have a meet up. Organise it in the comments below for Saturday or Sunday and let me know the details.

Watched a video about the newer chess controversy we were discussing, and yeah, I see why people are asking you about it. Good to meet you!

C.J. Smith

As part of the team that constructed the Hunt, I hope you had a good time!

Nick Poulos

Thanks David for organizing! It was such fun to chat with you all!! Here’s a link to Matt’s buried infinite unboxing video too: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BnnmA2klBN8

So great to meet you at Miracle of Science. I've upgraded my Patreon membership to help defray lunch expenses and because I love your videos!

Eric Sharakan

Ah my friends are doing mystery hunt in cambridge! alas I will be hunting with them from new york. Best of luck, from team NES!

Faraz Masroor

I'll be there!

Eric Sharakan

Good for me!

Sunday 2PM - Miracle of Science Bar + Grill They don't do reservations (hence 2PM to try to avoid rush times), but there's a few backup options in the area. Any objections or alternate suggestions?

David Garrison

Hope to see you at Mystery Hunt! Which team are you hunting with?

Ben Horkley

Yeah, thanks for letting us know! I too will see you at the JMM SF show on Friday :D

John Shulters

I'm on the periphery of the team via knowing one person on it, so I'd better not dox them by accident. It's a small team expecting a quiet weekend of struggling with the puzzles!

Matt Parker

I'm already the stray on the team I'm afraid, so I can't pull rank to absorb more people. But I'll see you at the impromptu catch-up.

Matt Parker

Thanks for the heads up. Ticket acquired for the JMM show 😁

Wendy Hill Smith

Will also be doing MIT MH in person, hope to run into you!

C.J. Smith

Sunday (the 14th) in the afternoon? any thoughts on locations somewhere near cambridge?

David Garrison

I'm in.

David Garrison

Is your MIT team accepting strays? I did sign up for the mystery hunt as a single. I'm in Cambridge and I enjoy puzzles (and am decent at then), but didn't have a team to register with.

David Garrison

Happy new year from the other side of the date line in New Zealand! Only 3 years to prime number 2027!

Hamish Barker

Likewise, will be participating in Mystery Hunt as well!

Ian Lai

OOC, which Mystery Hunt team will you be solving with? (I’m not participating, but I know lots of folks in the US puzzle scene).

Rick Rubenstein

same!

Adina

I'd love to meet up!

Your Average Chris

I'd also love to meet up in Cambridge!

Tahg

Same!

Yes, I gave a talk at Powell's Books in Portland two book tours ago and it was a lot of fun. Sadly I've not been back since; closest was Seattle Town Hall in early 2020. Hopefully I'll be back in Oregon before too long.

Matt Parker

Will you ever be visiting around Eugene or Portland or somewhere in Oregon - lots of college towns that might have a lot of similar minded performers.

Luke

I would also be interested in a meetup in Cambridge some time that weekend.

Eric Sharakan

I'm also interested in meeting up in Cambridge!

harmless_iterator

One day! It's difficult to put on shows in most countries unless there is a science festival or conference who want to organise it. I'm lucky that in places like London, NYC and LA I know enough people and venues to plan it myself.

Matt Parker

How fun - I'd be happy to meetup in Cambridge!

Peter Kagstrom

Meh. When you visit Warsaw I will be sure to try and attend.
