One Year Anniversary!
Added 2020-11-29 12:28:53 +0000 UTCAlright, so November 29! Today marks one year since Path to Ascension's release! I thought it would be cool to look back at everything that has happened since then, and the origins of the project.
Stats
Why don't we start with some fun numbers? Everything is exact apart from the writing segment, which is more or less correct give or take a bit. That's due to some discrepancies with my Google Docs and the writing inside the actual game code.
Writing:
- 204 pages
- 110.972 words
Programming:
- 25.032 Lines of Source Code
- 302 Classes
Game:
- 10 Areas
- 7 Enemies
- 25 items
- 26 Skills
- 12 Status Effects
- 5 Room Types
- 55 Scenes/Events
- 114 Appearance Options (Way more than what I thought, honestly. Glad I made a system for it.)
If we have some fun with averages, then that's about 80% of a class, 68 lines of code, half a page, and 304 words a day.
Start of Everything
Now one year does not mean that the project has existed for one year. As a matter of fact, the folder of the original Unity project was created on a Monday, August 20 of 2018. But serious development didn't really begin until about a year later, I believe.
Initially, the player would be the Form of Balance, and the gods would be less god and more representations of concepts of reality. I decided that too abstract and complicated for what would essentially be a porn game, haha.
It was a very different project back then, things really changed over the course of development. And for the better, might I add. Which to me, only reinforces my belief that if something is not working, do not be afraid to change it.
Don't believe it? How about you try it? I will be putting the first build of the original game attached to this post. It's only for windows x64, but I can make builds for other systems if you request it below, since I have a backup of the original unity project.
Here's a drive link if you prefer to download there instead of here.
In Conclusion
All this to say, we have done a lot, and we will be doing even more together. I say we and together, because I would definitely not be able to keep doing this without the kind words some spare, and without the financial support of my patrons. 2020 has been rough, if not for the patrons, I might have had to stop development to focus on staying afloat.
Hopefully, next year will be better. Thank you all for walking this path with me!
Get it? Path?
Anyway, that's all for now! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
