Another Interview with Baugasm

Comments

Love u bro you are a representative no matter where or who you come from and no one can fault you for that! Money is the conversation that needs to be had and it will take courage but for those willing to open up especially those with high visibility regardless of their situation can help everyone get on the same page towards a greater understanding of the industry at large. The more transparent we are with one another the sooner we can demand accountability in the industry and help bring more people towards more financial independence and help potentially prevent exploitative business practices used on the youth and low self esteemed that ultimately hurt everyone.

Jack Colby

sorry, I missed your answer. Do you mean the interview with Baugasm or the whole freelancer series in general? I tried to be as open as I feel comfortable, sharing lots of personal things. I didn't do a fully breakdown of all my earnings as these felt quite privat to me. But perhaps I need a bit more time to feel comfortable about that. But also I am speaking from a very privilieged perspective, a white middle aged dude living in Germany isn't very representive for the whole world.

These are all a little fluffy for me but maybe I missed some key parts I feel regardless in general there’s not enough economical breakdown like the real stuff that determines financial independence: numbers. And maybe what did your parents do for a living and is all your money made from your work or do you have other means? Case studies of projects to cost analysis for more than just you. Jesus Suarez has a wonderful breakdown on his patreon for ref. He breaks it all down by the numbers. I know a lot of people aren’t comfortable talking about how much they make and why they think they make that much but if we all want to build a more fair industry this is what we have to talk about like literally and directly not where we find our inspirations necessarily though I understand that stuff it’s not helpful to someone like me who hoped patreon could be a little deeper than the surface stuff we all already kind of know. The industry is getting difficult because no one is on the same page financially for example people are accepting less than ~$100/hr but given the price of the suite of software and hardware you need to create this stuff generally I think like this is like base price. We all need to pay to play to work in a time where most companies have quadrupled their sales. If none of these people can hire any of us for less than the reality of the cost of what it takes to produce the content we will begin to tip the scales and create a more equitably and healthy creative ecosystem. It’s not fair to demand that of you but I use this message as a way to reach a broader audience and I love you bruv it’s always a pleasure we are extremely lucky to have your brilliance and courage to be a representative of the field.
