51 - Sponge Animation

👑 This is my first Patreon birthday tutorial. I am super happy with the look of the sponge and I hope your results will also look nicey.
The sponge is from this texture pack: https://vincentschwenk.gumroad.com/l/iymjyd?layout=profile

Hi Vincent, I'm also running into similar issues where the shape is either too soft or too hard. Would it be possible to get the final scene? Thank you so much!

Gobind

Lovely would very much appreciate.

I will collect the files when I am back in the studio!

Hey Vincent! Got problems with setting up the soft body, either gets ridiculously hard or overly soft with many weird geometry happening. Could you share the final scene? It would help me much to troubleshoot, what it could be. Any help much appreciated!

I would approach it the same way. And as long as you don’t use an emitter it should work

Hello Vincent, everyone!! It's a little bit off topic but how would you approach time remapping in a scene like this to create nice slow mo? Would you bake as alembic both spheres and sponge and then time remap? I have a similar scene with spheres bouncing on a plane and when I bake as alembics, it f** up the dynamic (the spheres pokes through). When baking in a connect object, you cannot apply different textures right? Thank youuuuu!

Lauren

Yay! A tutorial from the Master 🙏🥰🩵thank you Vincent

Hey David, There are some videos about that topic. But in general, I always use UV unwrapped. Never flat, never cubic, never triplanar. If you want a quick an easy UV just use the automatic function in C4D. If you want a better UV have a look at RizomUV.

I would also love if you could do another tutorial similar to the '01 DESIGN - SOFTBODY RIBBON' video about creating custom materials from scratch

Hey Vincent, first of all thank you for your consistently good videos. I started with Cinema only a year ago and learned a lot from you. I have a big request, and maybe this topic fits sometime in one of your videos. I still have big problems when it comes to the topic of UVs. I would find it super cool if there would be a video in which the different projection types (Cubic, Flat ...) would be explained and you would discuss when to use which type. The same goes for nodes. For example, I always thought that the triplanar node can always be the solution if you have a too complex mesh and are not very good at UV unwrapping. But now I had to realize that this method is not suitable for animations, because then the texture floats. Maybe this topic is also too basic, but I wanted to have asked at least once :) Have a good day. Cheers Dave

I always render with MB, it just looks nicer than the fake ones.

Could you share the problematic scene that you built here?

Tobias Lind

Hey Vincent ! Good stuff always :) Quick question : Is it not better in terms of workflow to put the motionblur in compositing after the render ?
