And the final piece of the tutorial series.

I've been using vray 6.1 in c4d. RS in my opinion has fallen for all the reasons mentioned there were several projects I started in redshift and ended in octane or vray which made everything smooth and responsive.... also network render options for both of those engines far surpass redshift.

100% agree! Unreal is definately starting to look really interesting! I wonder if there will be even more integration with C4D/Houdini in the future, that would be a game-changer for motion design!

Yeah man, I am really afraid that they are losing the game. I mean final rendering is still very fast, but just the daily quick working in the IPR got so bad lately. And some features are just a joke. The RT button fo example, instant crashes and rendering something in "real time" takes longer than the normal one. I will try out Octane soon and see how this performs these days. Real time wise, I would love to play around with Unreal, this loos so amazing.

Probably also why many still use the "old" xpresso styled nodes. Most of the time you don't need to have a rendered image of the current node - you would like to see the final image that the standard shader currently sees.

Great tutorial series Vincent! Really fun to hear your and Gonzalos thoughts throughout the whole process, and a really nice end result! Regarding the material editor and redshift I'm also getting really frustrated with it.... It constantly freezes, jumps out of the camera when I update the IPR even though it's locked and changing parameters takes aaaages. Simple things like soloing a maxon noise and dialing in the correct scale takes so long cause of the "loading material - updating geometry - etc...". As soon as I have more then a couple of objects in the scene it's like 10-30 sec waiting everytime I change the camera angle or any material properties. Two years ago we were using Blender in the studio and when Cycles X was released we got almost realtime path tracing in the viewport for whole interior scenes. I've really loved Redshift but it's honestly getting so hard to work with that we might have to look at switching. A former co-worker who does a lot of work for Polestar and Volvo are thinking of switching to friggin V-Ray haha! Long rant but no, you are not the only one having issues with Redshift right now - really hope they can fix it!
