For something like this with the hairs, you could set the hair to Y then use the Hair Brush tool to quickly move your guides into the desired direction, then ‘set the initial state’ before simulating (hair edit > set initial state).

Dropbox Paper is another easy and fast tool to build a mood board and share with other designers - you are probably already aware of this but thought I'd share anyway :)
