18 Animation - Cold Kids

Hello everyone,

2020 was a really rough year, I hope that this one will be a bit better. I also hope that you had a good start so far and that we will all learn something new in 2021 :-)

So let's get started with this one. The tutorial is a bit different, because I want you to create an animation with the following sound: (done by JΓΌrgen Branz)
https://www.dropbox.com/s/gddu553r5vwj3tf/12%2001%20cold%20kids%2003.wav?dl=0
And if you feel comfortable, send me your video and I will give feedback to a few of them.

And here is my file with the scarfs:

Send me your final work with a link (for example Dropbox). You can send it here, on Instagram or to my email: hi@vincentschwenk.de

Cheers,
Vincent

Probably you are using the new soft body solver. Unfortunately you can't combine them (yet)

Vincent Schwenk

The soft body scarf is just falling through the rigid body stone. Any idea how to fix?

Gerard Hindle

Agree; given their other products are significantly less, seems they are definitely capitalizing on its uniqueness haha. Too much for me; I want it but I'll stick with external character creators.

Looks nice, but 600 is too much. I don't use hair that often.

Vincent Schwenk

Not sure if you've heard of this plugin, for another hair workaround, it's very cool - on the costly end though: https://ephere.com/plugins/maxon/c4d/ornatrix/

Madie Braswell

Thanks Emma. That is indeed a very good workaround, but would have been nice to fix the probleme at the start. But I think your root also helps with the hair flickering (in my version) βœŒοΈπŸ‘

Vincent Schwenk

Hi Vincent! I had an idea for the hair issue you were having (I also tested this and I think it gets to the result you were looking for with the distribution of hair). Create the soft bodies, set it up so the cloner is under the cloth surface. Turn off the cloth surface, cache. Turn on the cloth surface so you have the thickness (0 subdivisions though). Select everything under the hierarchy (so select the activated cloth surface, cloner, and scarf). Bake as alembic. Pull out the alembic group that has a second null under it and then the scarves inside (you might not actually need to bake EVERYTHING as alembic but I found it the easiest way to avoid issues)- this group is the one that has the full animation with the thickness added to the scarves. Delete or hide the rest of them/hide the original soft bodies. Then click to each alembic scarf, press c to make editable (they will keep their alembic animations)- if they end up under a null when you press c, remove them from the nulls and delete the nulls (for some reason that happens sometimes and it throws off the location of scarf but its fixed when you take out the scarf). Now you can select the polygons on the end and set a selection for the hair! Let me know if this works for you!

Thank you so much!! I googled it before but it didn't work. Then I reinstalled Bridge and it worked normally :)

Never heard about that, but google finds something about that: https://help.quixel.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360011821638-Could-Not-Send-Data-Over-Port-24420-Could-Not-Export-Assets-Please-Check-Log-For-Details

Vincent Schwenk

Hi Vincent! When I tried to export the rock from Quixel Bridge, it reported that β€œcould not send data over port 24420”. Could you please help me with this? Great Thanks!
