I don't interpret this as saying Jax breaking the comedy mask is actually a good thing. If this is supposed to be a metaphor for bipolar, Gangle being in depressive mode isn't necessarily better than a manic phase, either is out of balance. I also see this plastic comedy mask as possibly being analogous to being on a medication that isn't right for you, but it also could be a metaphor for toxic positivity that isn't sustainable.
