THE OWL HOUSE 03X01 REACTION AND FATTY FAT DISCUSSION

Comments

Comment from Herman Diaz: Sorry for the delayed comment, but I figured someone would beat me to pointing out the following things: -I'm kinda surprised none of you mentioned Hunter's shirt at 4:57, given the seemingly-obvious reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFxJDFodce4 -In reference to 5:24, it was still summer (August) when they arrived, which means less rain. -In reference to 9:51, IDK for sure, but the 1st character that came to my mind was Odysseus from Homer's "The Odyssey". -That's probably the art teacher at 10:22, given the "Art" sign at 10:18 followed by the "No Taxidermy[...]No Spiders[...]" sign (in reference to Luz's anatomically-correct Griffon in s1ep1). -I'm kinda surprised none of you made a GILF joke at 10:40 ;) -Based on Camila's flashback dream, they must live in a conservative suburb b/c those ppl sound very stuffy & not fun >:( -Maybe it's just me, but I find it funny how Flapjack shrugs/chirps in reply to Hunter at 23:25. It reminds me of how that 1 frog shrugs/ribbits in reply to Vermigurber in this "Rick and Morty" scene: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nkruHizVao -In reference to 28:48, you could argue that Luz made a mistake by "having faith in" Philip, someone she didn't know but wanted to please. -I think the implication is that Evelyn was an older relative of Eda (AKA Edalyn) & that she hid the titan's blood, hence why Flapjack knew about the map & why the blood had the same owl imagery that Eda uses. -In reference to why Hunter threw away the blood, he was trying to make sure Belos "never hurt anyone again" by going back to the Demon Realm. However, since he still didn't have full control of his body, Belos made him dive in after the blood. -42-43:00 made me realize how often that particular "self-sacrifice thing" is used in sci-fi/fantasy. In fact, my initial thought was along the lines of, "Hey, that's like Mothra in the 2019 Godzilla movie...or Rodan in the 1993 Godzilla movie...or Princess Yue in ATLA..." Not that I'm complaining, just something I noticed. -Like Raymond, I too was iffy about Vee at 1st, but this ep made me love her :3 -At 54:17, are you referring to when Debbie spoke Spanish in s3ep6? To be fair, that was supposed to be wrong (I.e. She doesn't know Spanish herself, but wants her kids to learn so that she'll "know if the maids are talking about" her). -Camila is like a cross btwn my mom & my sister: My mom for the same reasons as Raymond at 57:48; My sister b/c of how quickly & fiercely Camila sticks up for Luz <3 -In reference to 1:03:00-1:03:20, Vee thought Jacob still worked there & so was saving it as a last resort ("I was hoping it wouldn't come to this, but..."; "Huh?[...]You're not Jacob"). -In reference to 1:04:00, those are the pics Willow took at 8:13 & 17:13. She probably re-arranges the old ones as she adds new ones to the book, hence why the slightly older Amity pic overlaps the slightly newer Hunter pic.

Although Luz's irrational fear of telling everyone about her role in Philip's rise to power can be a little frustrating, her tendency to take a disproportionate amount of blame onto herself has been an established character flaw for quite some time. This was particularly noticeable at the end of season 1 and the beginning of season 2, when she felt like she was fully responsible for Eda succumbing to the curse and getting captured. She has also been shown to have a deep-seated fear of being seen as a burden by those she cares about, which was likely exacerbated when she was ostracized by her peers for most of her life. This reluctance to burden other people with her problems could also explain why she was so hesitant to open up to Amity about the situation with her dad.
