I’ve noticed that the first seasons of cartoons with overarching stories tend to have a heavier concentration of slice-of-life antics, before eventually focusing more on them. I think it’s due because network executives actively pushing for more fun, one-off adventures that kids can watch in any order. One of the most commonly suggested reasons for The Owl House getting shortened was that it was becoming too serialized for Disney’s liking.
