I can definitely see that. I don't mind the slow burn, because the characters and voice acting are solid even in the rougher first season episodes, but I can definitely see how it would frustrate others.
I think it also helped that I just started watching recently and binged the first season over a long weekend rather than watching it release one episode at a time.

My only complaint (I have another, but it’s a spoiler at this point) about the first season is.... well, it’s a first season. A lot of episodes are just establishing the setting and characters. And comparatively to other modern cartoons, it takes a long time to set up the overarching conflict. We know Luz wants to learn magic, and Eda’s has a curse. And that’s it for a while. What kept my interest going in the middle here, was the consistently good writing, and the macabre setting.
