lol'd when they showed Gwansik sticking his ads everywhere advertising his food being ready in 10 minutes with Lee Hyori's song '10 minutes' playing as the BGM. I've really loved the way they integrated Korean history into the show. There are always snippets either from TV's/radio's playing, brief flashes from a newspaper, or background characters having a conversation about what is going on in each slice of timeline throughout the show. Some of it is important or impactful to politics/economics like elections being held or the IMF Crisis, or sometimes it's more related to whatever the pop culture zeitgeist was at the time (popular movies, music, entertainers, sporting events, etc.). Even if you don't get all the references (I sure don't), you can at least appreciate the effort put into the way they try and date each segment with the unique styling and happenings of the era. It makes me love this show that much more.
