I-Land Ep. 2

I-Land Ep. 2

Comments

Man, I know I mentioned it on the last episode too, but their little baby faces are just so cute and it's so interesting to look at them here while knowing how much they've matured (most of those who have debuted are in groups that I either casually follow or do at least listen to and have seen in other shows more recently). It's kind of stunning, really. Equally amazing when you compare their voices and performance to their baby versions here. Just wow. I know it sounds strange, but I'm actually really glad that they had so many extras who had to leave. Imagine if they'd had 13, and that ONE PERSON had to get back in the lift and take a very lonely solo journey out to Ground. It would've been devastating. At least this way they had each other for support. For Grounders, I think they were housed together (or in groups) off-site so it didn't require them commuting from their homes - but the housing they would have still wouldn't have been anything like what's available inside I-Land... and because they're not living on-site, they don't have the opportunity to just go use the practice room whenever they'd like, the travel time cuts into their "working day", etc. So it's still a great opportunity for them, but it definitely exhibits a large gap between the two groups. To me, it's similar to thinking about how much is available to trainees under really big management companies compared to what those at smaller ones might have access to. That said, as you saw, Grounders might show up early while I-Landers are still snoozing because they know they've got to work harder than ever to take those spots. I always feel so sorry for Jay in this episode. My consolation is knowing that young man grows into an exceptional vocalist, performer, and musician... and his I-Land experiences are part of what helped him become who he is today. They all improve so much after this, really. I guess that's one reason I still enjoy watching this with people who are reacting; it gives me a chance to remember where they were before and better appreciate where they are now. I'm seriously excited to see you explore beyond this and see how they've turned out, if you choose to go down those various roads :) M-NET editing is truly bad. It's (some of) the worst I've seen, really. You'll see more and more of it as the show progresses, things like conversations that are portrayed differently than they should've been or stuff like here where they make it seem like Grounders are trying to drive a wedge between TAKI and NI-KI, or focusing on someone's facial expression to make it seem like they're reacting worse than they are, etc. The part I hate most is that all of that ends up affecting the voters who participate when the show itself airs, and that just irks me. I'd rather see what's really happening and use my grown-up brain to decide who I want to vote for, not have your editing try to sway me one way or another. The scoring for this one was really harsh, but I think the point behind them doing that is to shake up the I-Landers and remind them that they have to fight tooth and nail to prove they deserve to be there. Right now it's just determining how many go to Ground, but later the remaining spots in I-Land also begin to shrink until they reach the debut number (I won't give that away since you'll find out soon enough). It's a hard learning process for them, but the idea is to make them stronger and it does actually bear fruit, thankfully.

While it’s brutal to see what they’re doing to the contestants, I’m glad I’m going in blind with only the knowledge that most of them make it in the industry somehow, it makes the show more dramatic!

All the other reactors I've seen react to I-Land already knew who made it into Enhypen. It is so much more enjoyable watching you go in blind.
