I laughed so hard at the story where your waitress didn't come back because of the cops. It was like a scene straight up from one of those old Eddie Murphy or Chris Tucker movies. Congrats/good luck on the job change! Coincidentally, I'm also switching workplaces this month, since I've been scouted by a lot more interesting company recently. Even though I'm a little bit scared of the unknown, I'm mostly excited about the change. But also a little sad/guilty, about leaving my previous teammates, with whom I managed to make a pretty nice bond with. The change is necessary though, and I'm very happy that you're taking these steps! Halloween, huh? Down here, we actually don't celebrate Halloween. Here we have All Souls' Day, which is a Christian holiday, but pretty much everyone participates regardless of their beliefs. There is no candy nor fun costumes. I think it's pretty similar to the Day of the Dead, but with a lot more solemn tone. People meet with their close and extended families, and they go to cemeteries, to visit those that have left our world, clean their graves, light new candles and pray for their safe passage into the afterlife. It's a time of remembrance and reflection (and sore legs! Because of all the walking one usually needs to do in one day). It's actually kinda fascinating, seeing these usually desolate, dark places once a year beaming with (living) people and the light of thousands of candles. So unfortunately no fun Halloween pet stories nor costumes, but I can say that our retriever Duke really loves meeting all dogs my extended family brings to the dinner at my grandmother's :D Thanks for the extra long ramble! As always, it was super nice to listen to c;

Yeah, absolutely know what you mean about Denny’s being neutral ish. Near me it’s Waffle House. And thinking about it now I pass two just on the way to work and there’s another right near them. And now I can’t help but feel like they are some sort of border or seal for an ancient curse or a great evil.

I know the circumstances aren't ideal but it's good to hear that you're leaving an unhealthy work environment. I just left a job of four years at a place that was really close to me and took care of my family because the folks in charge had turned a place of comfort and community into something toxic and self-serving. I didn't realize how badly it had affected my mental health until after I left. I hope that you feel that same catharsis when you step away, it feels like dropping a weight you didn't realize you were carrying. I swear that's the last time I overshare in your comments section. Thanks for addressing my reply to the last ramble, and for sharing about your dogs. Very funny that, in a way, you actually have a tsundere dog girl. Halloween was never big for our family, but a couple of times stand out. One time was in middle school, it was the first time I went out with just my friends. No cool stories or anything, I just didn't do that very often so it was a lot of fun running around at night and hanging out. The other, in high school, I went as an undead groom, which I was proud of because I thought it was super clever. Went out with a bunch of family friends, and I got to have a cool big brother moment when I ran back to a house to find a toy my sister's friend had dropped. We ended the night with a Guitar Hero party.

Wait oh my god I also had a possibly-racist experience at a Denny's. My family is mixed-race and when we walked into a Denny's by Niagara Falls, everyone in the restauraunt turned and gave us The Look. Being from SoCal and living on military bases, that definitely took me off guard. Props to the overzealous tortilla man, I hope he's doing well.
