Love this Q and A! Your podcast is fantastic, and you seem very down to earth and grounded. Keep up the great work!!!

I literally wrote the case selection and research guide (unpaid mind you) and developed a comprehensive public data map for all 50 states highlighting which states public data is most readily available (again - unpaid); both of which SAS Writer/Producers are still using to this day without my express permission or compensation. I also requested the initiation of the first true team conference call - a process that helped break down silos and facilitate teamwork - something that never happened in the time I was employed at said podcast until the final few weeks before I left. Something that to my knowledge, is still in place and utilized today among the Writers and Producers. I didn't learn anything from a business standpoint from that podcast... other than that I could not work for the host. That is the extent of my "learning." I left behind far more business knowledge than I could have ever gained from writing and producing for such a chaotic, disorganized, and toxic environment. I'm no attorney - but wage theft lawsuits are expensive as fuck... especially when the crux of one's so-called "training materials" were developed by yours truly... and have been used for nearly three years after my departure - again... without my express permission or compensation.

You’ve got a good show and I do believe your approach is slightly different. Then again, everyone’s approach is going to vary to a certain degree… Working in the prison system may make you more immersed but it doesn’t translate to being better or more qualified necessarily. From a business lens, you went to work for an established podcast, learned what you needed and then pivoted your existing project into essentially the same thing… it’s a bit of a tough look The inner workings of your project may be different. They’re certainly more righteous in your mind but the similarities are undeniable. I like your show and I’ll keep listening bc there hasn’t been a great deal of topic overlap. That said I don’t think you should have addressed this accusation at all. It’s clear that you see yourself as the individual taking the high road and if that’s the case, just keep walking, no need for discussion. The short term employment, the pivot in your own project to basically do the exact same style of show… I’m no lawyer but if this was a court case I know which side I’d want to be representing.
