Dynamic Fraying Rope

In this video I'll show you how to model a rope and then using MOPS+ and Vellum I'll show you how to dynamically fray and pull it apart. We'll use Redshift to light and texture it.

is There Any way To Replace Mops+ i cannot use them , any other node or process

Hrudai kumar

Yeah, it's a bit more complicated but This video explains how to do it if you skip ahead to around 27 minutes in: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBzBimJVTno

Hey Ian, is there an alternative for the MOPs Fetch Attribute?

Fernando

Hi , is there no sample file?

m_a_

Do you have any advice on why I can not see the red points when using the popcolor ?

Bruno Suraski

I think you usually need to do it from the SOP context.

ian frederick

I can not do the flipbook from the Vellum solver context, as you do when running the flipbook. I need to go to the SOP level and do the flipbook. In any case, the red-coloured group isn't apparent. Did you run your flipbook while being in the vellum context.

Bruno Suraski

I am afraid the inconsistencies I am findiing out are related to my workaround to avoid using the fetch node from MOPS+ I am trying to ask for advide in the houdini group. There is also a video from Paul Esteves explaining how to do exactly this, but It is too advance, I get lost in all the options he displays. If it becomes too much I will either skip the tutorial or buy Mops+ thank you!

Bruno Suraski

Send me a DM and I’ll give you my email

ian frederick

Are there ways to share with you a flipbook, my scene isnt behaving as expected. Thank you

Bruno Suraski

I wish I could share images. I did follow the tutorial you shared. Basically I added a Geometry wrangler pointing to the groups of the points LSIDE RSIDE and in the inputs I switched to Input 1 = SOP and SOP path to the shape fall off . How that works

Bruno Suraski

Hey, it's a little more complicated if you aren't using MOPs. I think you need to use a wrangle node inside the solver to access the mops_falloff attribute. This video expplains how to do it if you skip ahead to around 27 minutes in: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBzBimJVTno

ian frederick

Do you know if I can replicate this without MOPS +

Bruno Suraski

Yep, MOPs+ only

ian frederick

Mops Fetch attribute is part of Mops + right? I can not see it in the solver with regular Mops

Bruno Suraski

I found that its the latest video in the feed. It just didn't post in order. =)

Lukasz Pason

No worries, thank you!

Quirin Mohrhagen

Ah crap hah I must’ve uploaded part 2 of the tutorial instead of the first part on accident. Sorry about that! I’ll edit it as soon as I get home and upload part one also. My bad!

ian frederick

Ok, so it’s not on Patreon? The video above starts with the simulation part

Quirin Mohrhagen

Hey, it’s the entire first half of the video where I use the sweep nodes to model the rope

ian frederick

Hi Ian. I cant seem to find the modeling part. Am I missing something?
