They can commonly be found in nearly any forest, and to bring one towards yourself, simply bring a light of some sort during night time. Be cautious, however, because several reports claim they were unintentionally attracting several at a time, with one researcher even having a small handful to deal with at once.
It's worth noting that even though their bodies are incredibly soft, a trainer being intimate with one should avoid squeezing too much, because they do still secrete poison, it just requires some sort of action to bring it out past its thick fur. The easiest way to approach one for intimacy is to offer it something, a small insect or bite of food, let it see you as a friend, and soon after, a mate.
They may be considerably smaller than a human, but they make up for that by being absolutely relentless in their breeding. The reason we warn of attracting multiple is because male or female, a venonat will refuse to stop mating until exhaustion. One researcher likened the behavior to an insect bumping itself against a lightbulb until it passes out, but we'd need more research on certain Pokemon to be able to verify this.
Either way, for the best experience, prepare to one's own taste, whether you'd like multiple to breed with at once, or one to focus on to reward their determination. It is difficult to differentiate sex when attracting them, but letting ones that don't meet personal tastes wander off after a meal for their time will usually yield results, and be beneficial to both parties regardless.
