For Sandshrew, surprisingly, there wasn't as much dirt or dust involved as our researchers were expecting. Their smooth scales and soft skin actually self maintain to a surprising degree, and feel lovely to the touch, according to the ones who've had intimate experience. When it comes to actually breeding, it's easy to tell which of the subjects have more experience burrowing into holes. Males tend to be gentle about stretching their partners, and females have an easy time using their clawed fingers to ready themselves or tease their partner. Sandshrew have an instinct for seeking out fluids, and that translates very clearly into mating as well. The females refused to let any male researchers pull out, while males refused to stop, long after their own climaxes, until the female researchers had provided enough moisture to satisfy them. It seems this habit has a beneficial effect, as it encourages actual breeding, and minimizes fluid loss, as even the skin of their respective organs seem to have a tendency to soak up fluids. Not to say they lack lubrication, if anything they don't need it. The aforementioned softness makes skin to skin contact more than reasonable, especially when it comes to interspecies contact, where one party provides much more lubrication than the other can detract. This natural fluid conservation causes anything they produce to be thicker, and ground typing causes it to be grainy, but not unpleasant.
