I recently bought and played thru Cursed Castilla, a Ghosts 'n' Goblins-like platformer. It's pretty crazy difficult, but not too long, and very well made.
Unfortunately, there's no princess to save, no damsels in distress, not even any seducing succubi. Just the "final" boss, a woman who went mad with grief and signed a pact with demons, releasing them into the world and becoming one herself.
Spoilers ahead for the story: Once you beat the "true" ending, you're shown all the souls escaping the true demon, one being the woman's lost love - who comes back to her, and they kiss before fading away into the afterlife.
Not on my watch, tho. In my version Don Ramiro gets a true reward for all his hard work.
