July Maps and Sales Tax Update

I'm hoping to put out one more pack before the end of the month, but there's a pile of other art deadlines closing in. Fear not, that doesn't mean zero new content. With all the cool content I've got on the docket, it is important to disclose changes to your paid patronage. Effective July 1st, Patreon will move to comply with the ever evolving US tax laws and implement sales tax on certain benefits. Unfortunately, digital downloads (these maps) fall into the realm of taxable within most states. Depending on where you live, you may start seeing a sales tax charge on your account in addition to any pledges. I have no control over who gets taxed; that's based on individual state laws and what benefits Patreon deems "taxable." So if you normally pay, for example, 5% sales tax in your home state on non-essential retail items, you can expect to pay that 5% rate here on Patreon. If your state doesn't have a sales tax, you don't have to worry about the new changes. Likewise for our international/EU friends where the VAT is already in place.

I'm currently looking into the best way to adjust the percentage of your pledge that is considered taxable. After all, your pledge donations are for more than just the final map files; and things like fun wip blog posts and community polls are not considered taxable.
