Twofold - Talkin' about polish!

Meowdy! It's Theo! I'm here to talk about ✨POLISH ✨!

Making Twofold as best as it can be is super high on our priority list. I think we've definitely got something extremely special from a directing, story, and overall feeling standpoint—so, why not make it shine with extra flourishes and designs?

The main things we're looking at right now are sound effects and ambience, voice acting, UI animations and smoothness, and extra visuals like chibis, effects, and cut-ins. I'm Theo so I don't know how to do most of the other stuff, but I do love drawing chibis!!

I drew this set of chibis sort of as a mistake. I forgot I had already started a set for the scene it was going to be a part of, but caps suggested off-handedly it'd make a good banner. I agreed and also, I really liked the design so I finished it up!

WELL THEY HAVEN'T ALWAYS BEEN.

As part of our polish phase, I really, really wanted to fix up our old emote designs. I'm not sure exactly why I drew them how I did at first: I think I was trying to replicate a very shiny, stickerlike style that I had seen when looking up different anime effects.

Anyhow! I redrew them all.

There's even a few more, but these are the big ones…!

I went for a more solid, flat feeling. Not only did this mix better with our overall aesthetic, I think it helps make the emotes stick out and compliment the sprites, rather than stick out because they're so differently rendered.

All of our emotes are animated, and so the next step will be touching up the animations for the ones that aren't quuuiiite where we want them yet. Right now, the flowers that replaced the little heart rotate around the character pleasantly like in Animal Crossing, so that'll be hard to top! We're also thinking about sound effects and how they could play a role, like sparkles to accompany the… sparkles.

I'm not the best at writing these but I hope you find it interesting! I've been hard at work avoiding the difficult work by doing cutins and chibis—I mean I've been hard at work GRINDING through the TORTUROUS ASPECT OF CUTE ART AND… eh. I'm having so much fun working on Twofold and seeing all the little pieces we put off for the polish phase come together!! I can't wait until we can share this with all of you soon. Let me know if I'm missing any emotes, I could use a break from UI coding!
