I guess most of you who have played with residential rentals have already figured out that the rent bills are broken. The bills information dialogue simply states that the rent costs 0 simoleons. When the bills are placed in your mailbox, you can only pay for housing and utility bills, not rent.

Some time ago, the 'Force Bills Due' cheat worked, but now it's not an option either.

This bug tends to appear with the NPC landlord, Panya Lee, as usual, but it may also happen with playable landlords.

So what have I done?

Firstly, I made a change to the business validation so that the rental unit would still be valid for working with NPC owners. Yes, that was the main cause of this bug. But it's not the only one.

Secondly, I changed the way the rent due cost is calculated. It depended on the number of days that the business was open, but this function did not count the time properly due to specific behaviour relating to rental businesses (unlike retail stores, for example, where you can simply open or close your business).

Now, the rental due cost is calculated by multiplying the base rent cost by the difference between today and Monday, since Monday is the day when bills are delivered. Why not just multiply by seven?

Because, thirdly, I created a new cheat to pay the bills in the mailbox.

Simply enter the 'testingcheats true' cheat code, then Shift + click on the mailbox. This cheat is only available when you don't have any bills due. It might come in useful if something goes wrong. Rent bills will also be delivered on Monday, so this is useful if you want to remove the overdue status.

Fourthly, I redesigned the bill delivery process. Now it doesn't depend on the mailman, because there are issues with planning their job at multi-unit lots if you have several types of mailbox (they just don't show up, haha). Instead, bills are delivered automatically in the early morning every Monday. Think of it as an online notification.

Finally, I made some minor changes to the mailbox storage system to enable automatic bill delivery to all mailboxes. After all, you definitely wouldn't want to encounter any exceptions or have to search for the correct mailbox if delivery only worked for one random mailbox.

Warning

I strongly advise you to use only one mailbox per lot, including the rental one. The game only considers one mailbox for its processes anyway.

However, strange things are likely to happen on the rental units. With this fix, you may only have 'Pay Rent' and 'Pay Bills' interactions on mailboxes (without 'Pay Rent and Bills') on rental units with a lot of mailboxes (especially the wall ones). You can still run both, or just use the computer or phone.

However, as I said, bear in mind that this is not the preferred option. It's much safer to use communal multirental mailboxes from the 'For Rent' pack.

And it's NOT obsolete as I hoped since EA claimed it as a solved issue lol. Even with the 1.116 Patch the rent cost is stll 0 xD

CONFLICTS

It doesn't conflict with mods that change bill costs.

Don't use it with SNB Bills and R|E by SimRealist, as it's meaningless. They have their own billing system, so you should only pay the bills they have calculated. However, there is a bug whereby the rent cost is always for just one day instead of the entire period. I saw a bug report about this on their Discord server, so I guess you just have to wait.

It conflicts with any mod that overrides InventoryTypeTuning, i.e. Freelance Chef Mod by Adeepindigo. But it's a rare case
