[Spill it Girlies] Lily’s Advice for Learning To Edit
Added 2025-01-03 14:00:10 +0000 UTCHi girlies! So, as promised, Spill it Girlies is sometimes a bonus episode, and sometimes it’s just us answering your submissions. Well today... you get me!
Thank you Emmy for the question about video editing! Not sure how many of you other girlies are also editing girlies there but hopefully this is helpful for some of you! And if you’d like more of this type of advice or even something a bit more specific, let me know!

2025-01-07 19:24:34 +0000 UTCIn terms of getting software like any of the Adobe products, check with your local library to see if they offer access to the software. A lot of libraries have subscription based services that you can access for free with your library card!

2025-01-07 17:11:49 +0000 UTCDoes the software still work?

2025-01-07 01:29:49 +0000 UTCThere was something so endearing and kind in this. I love it. I have zero interest in learning how to do this but I enjoyed watching and listening.

2025-01-06 23:29:15 +0000 UTCI also went to college for the credential and not the actual education 😅. Got my bachelor's in business, graduated summa cum laude, and don't feel any wiser. Everything I've learned about business, I've learned at work and through the occasional mentor willing to take me under their wing.

2025-01-06 14:15:32 +0000 UTCvery helpful resources! also this is the first time i’ve heard someone say chat gpt actually helped them do something correctly 🤯

2025-01-06 07:28:13 +0000 UTCThanks Lily! I was hoping you would mention the asset sites/collections you use. Envato is always recommended to me while I'm searching for free assets and templates so I'm happy you mentioned them. I'm starting a new video series at work and wanted to find a less common title template than the free one I've been using 😅 Thank you for sharing!

2025-01-05 08:15:59 +0000 UTCI couldn't agree more about getting into the film industry. I work in the Midwest and haven't been formally trained through any kind of college. On the job is the best way to get practical, useful experience. Editing is my weak point. I do okay at the basics, but shooting, lighting, and photography are my bread and butter. But I want to get more editing skills so I'm soaking all this up

2025-01-04 19:50:25 +0000 UTCThe way I was taking notes all throughout this. Super helpful!

2025-01-04 17:08:06 +0000 UTCI’ve been (VERY casually) editing since like 2012 and I love learning new tricks but I’m so stubborn I found random apps that are like knockoffs of photoshop, Final Cut, etc. and have just used those since i started 🤣 this was super helpful!

2025-01-04 03:20:53 +0000 UTCLily, you give such great protective big sister vibes. You seem like the kind of person you could tell absolutely anything and you’d get a genuine, loving, level headed response. You’re also fiercely loyal and protective and ready to put someone in their place for the people you love. Those are the greatest friends and the best people to go to for advice❤️ thanks for being our internet big sis🥰

2025-01-04 02:47:13 +0000 UTCi love how other people are also interested in the editing aspect! that’s honestly kind of my main motivation to joining patreon, to pick lily’s brain about her skills and journey (but i got too shy to ask so i was waiting hehe). thanks for sharing lily, and please continue to share your knowledge and experiences!

2025-01-04 01:48:42 +0000 UTCUSC school of cinematic arts is my alma mater, and despite it being a renowned program, I did not learn really anything that was that practical for the film industry lol. This was almost 20 years ago mind you but it was during peak Spielberg and George Lucas days. And even still… I couldn’t agree more with Lily’s sentiment. I pretty much went for the degree and the connections. Film school is a funny thing eh. I dreamed of going to film school growing up but I 100% glamorized it in my head and it really isn’t the be all end all, i suppose. I learned how to produce and production manage/coordinate basically on the job over the 10 years I was in the industry. Good luck with your career!

2025-01-03 19:22:50 +0000 UTCMY TIME HAS COME!!! Thanks for answering my question, it was also unbelievably comforting to hear you got your degree kinda so you could say you had the degree but knew the work would come after college by working your way up. I feel that is a common film experience, you are fs not weird for that To answer your question I graduated in 2022!

2025-01-03 17:13:36 +0000 UTCHow do you do the neon frames you use for assets? I wanted to do something like that one day but I couldn't figure it out especially to make it follow the actual assets movement

2025-01-03 17:00:47 +0000 UTCThank you for the Lily! I do editing but it's EXTREMELY basic lol I was using kinemaster pro but I have a new laptop so I got wondershare filmora but it won't let me get pro and the free version has a huge full length watermark so I'm trying to find a different one lol. So yeah. But I'm trying my best to get better at editing

2025-01-03 16:54:55 +0000 UTCI dont really go here but I watched this whole thing lol, very interesting! I would like to learn how to edit little short form vlog style videos

2025-01-03 16:54:29 +0000 UTCLoved this Lily! I wanted to study editing in school, but ended up going in a different direction. Twenty years later, it's still an interest of mine so I started a channel a while back with the sole goal of making content so I had a reason to practice. My inner child has loved it! One thing that's helped me is finding channels that have a style I like, paying close attention, then attempting to do the same thing. DWKT is one of those channels! I still haven't figured out the purple/pink DWKT background that moves back and forth -- haven't even managed to find a preset of that one. But I'll figure it out one day! Would love to hear more anytime you feel like sharing!

2025-01-03 16:03:24 +0000 UTCI loved this! I taught myself to edit growing up but now I've been trying to learn how to make music on garage band. so this video was helpful for that too, like the reminder that there are so many more resources out there to learn anything compared to when I was teaching myself how to edit videos in high school.
