Our first series we are dissecting is the most straight forward form of frame-within-frame on the roll. The mirror as a frame. Actually, in the first three we don’t see the frame. Which is because I forgot for a moment what I was doing with this roll (I have multiple cameras serving different purposes) and snapped some selfies when I felt cute. So I didn’t include them in my favorites (and not the ones with Carter either for a similar reason), but the reason that last one struck a cord with me, as opposed to the other two, is because the lamp provided such a nice frame. Having something in the foreground that draws the attention is always a big yes for me. It doesn’t dominate, but it delivers some intrigue. And is a source of light as well, which I adore on film. Besides that - the subject of the photo (me) is telling a story. The fact she is half dressed, only wearing a bra and skirt, indicates she’s in the middle of something - either getting ready to go out for the evening or returning from a night out, tuckered out and getting ready for bed. We’re getting a glimpse into an intimate moment of hers, and in fact, she’s inviting us into it. And yes, I did just talk about myself in the third person. It felt right. Let me know what you think, whether you have a different favorite or resonate with it in other ways. And come back tomorrow for the next round.
