I REALLY hate this “they’re making TV. It’s a reality show. The point is to make TV” narrative that’s really been cropping up lately. It completely gives these major million/billion dollar production companies carte blanche to do whatever the hell they want in the name of making good TV. No matter whose mental health or public image gets hurt in the process. And quite frankly, Drag Race will have its moment in the spotlight one day in the future just like Top Model. “Blame It On the Edit” was one of the biggest gaslights in history. Especially when every freaking episode they’re frankenclipping together sentences that the girls never even said. Or taking a clip of Onya from one scene and pasting it over her in another scene to drive a narrative. The common thread is true in every system. The rich and powerful will gladly exploit the fuck out of anyone’s hard work, hopes and dreams if it leads to “good tv” or more money.
