2025-01-09 12:01:31 +0000 UTCI used to do Ballet Folklorico (the traditional Mexican dance) for multiple years when I was younger. Technically, there were a lot of issues with the performance. Either the choreography was not figured out or she didn’t learn it properly. Because there were a lot of loose movements and inconsistencies. The performances I used to do were also way more high energy and more complex (and we were in ELEMENTARY school, so take that into account!). The song choice and performance were also low energy here and just lacking overall. When you see trained Ballet Folklorico dancers, you can’t help but feel mesmerized by their movements, but that definitely didn’t happen here sadly. At first I was happy to see that Arrietty had chosen to do Ballet Folklorico, but unfortunately the execution was just way off. I can tell that’s why everyone seemed to want to like it but were underwhelmed. Definitely a missed opportunity. But thank you Bob for asking! I really appreciate that ❤

She talks about being a country queen and being influenced by country music and having bluegrass music influences, but then she comes in with a basic 80's look and 80's slang for the entrance line? Just thought there was a total disconnect. I did feel bad for her, she's valid in feeling pissed about being rated last because she did sing an original song and it wasn't like a typical lip sync talent show. But if she's gonna do that, she needs to elevate it. She technically did a great performance but there wasn't any bells and whistles. I think paired with that and her runway being the worst look of the night, I think that's why the queens rated her last.

It was a form of resistance to slavery and colonialism. What Yara did in the comedy challenge I think was mambo (Cuban). What Arriety did here looks Mexican to me, and from a later century. I don't know a lot about that.
