I was in the 4th grade when 9/11 happened and my elementary school was in Queens, New York. 7 mins from JFK airport. I remember one by one each student was getting picked up by their parent. It was strange but I was just happy we got to go home. Obviously a 9 year old can’t fully grasp what was going on. My older cousin also worked in the North Tower and thankfully made it out safely. She always describes that long walk over the Brooklyn Bridge.

I think we're way too quick to jump on the bandwagon of ulterior motive theories about the Maui relief effort. I've had first hand experience with some of Oprah's charity work and was shocked by how much money was being spent and how little it was advertised. I have a feeling the same might be true in this case. Their announcement mostly avoided talking about what they would contribute because that's Oprah's style. She doesn't trumpet her charity too loudly. I have immense respect for that woman. She has more than enough money to have no profit motive and to try and really do something for people.
