New Side-Project, for all the stuff that would break the main-pack

Hey! Check out the new video: https://youtu.be/PujYYN-8Rtk
There are so many great things that could be done with custom Textures for Seus PTGI, but what's currently hindering me from doing these: They will conflict with the "main-pack". I simply can't put all the things into one pack. It would be laggy, confusing for most people and it would be a lot of work to make things compatible with textures/models added in previous versions.
This is why I want to split the pack:
- Main-Pack: Will continue as usual, but I will no longer add certain things that I think would harm the overall-feel of the pack. Main goal: Retexturing vanilla-blocks for awesome grpahics - but still in a way that makes at least some sense for normal gameplay.
- Side-Project(s): All the stuff that can't make it to the main-pack.
An example: I need to use the grindstone-block as stairs in the current update, which would totally harm survival gameplay if I added this to the main-pack. Instead I just create a seperate pack for this stuff. Just for showing off the graphics.
Can I mix the two packs? probably yes, but expect some things to be broken.
I talked about this a lot but most people are still unaware of it:
I do not intend to create "resource packs" - I create individual Textures for awesome Videos/Screenshots. You need to understand that these Textures can't be treated like regular pixel-texturepacks. I can't just add more and more stuff for all kinds of reasons.
What's this update about?
For me - all about learning some more "advanced" techniques of texturing/modding.
Setting a good foundation for upcoming updates where I can make use of this knowledge
- Optifine CTM: I used this in the past ocasionally but I never looked into the more complex techniques of making ctm textures. It allows blocks to consist of a high numbers of individual textures, that are applied depending on the block's surroundings.
For example: the new light_gray_concrete has "rain/dirt-lines" at the top block, randomly alternating base textures and dirt on the edges of blocks. Trade-off: Very demanding on performance so the resolution needs to be quite low. - Complex Blockstate files:
For the new 3D glass panes I used custom blockmodels and altered the multipart-blockstate file in a way that it allows things like: ceiing/roof windows that connect to vertical panes in an L-shape. Usually this only works properly with mods.
I also added thin walls that connect properly even with complex shapes.
In creative-mode inventory you can search for "umsoea" to find the blocks that are used in my latest video/build.
What's next?
R14 - Daylight-Sensors that look like Solar Panels? Anvils? Pistons? 3D glass panes for the main-pack, etc.
In general I'd like to move more into exterior architecture stuff. Really abusing minecraft as a 3D rendering engine. I'd love to continue designing houses like the one I built for this update but with more and more realistic textures (currently it's only plain white as a base).
