Softwares

1. Clo / Marvelous Designer - I'm glad that this software exist but hate the lack of competitor. The main reasons I use Clo instead of MD is because it has built-in render, and I can create baseline instead of internal line. On the other hand, MD has more feature for 3D pipeline like re-topology. MD is also cheaper.

2. VStitcher/Browzwear - The only competitor to Clo/MD, at least for average user. You can request for free one year indie license. I don't know what will happen after one year or what is the price. The request process is also very simple - i only have to provide email and my profile page. So far this software is inferior to Clo in almost every aspect. Hopefully I will discover it usefulness soon.

3. Lectra, Optitex, Gerber, Tuka3D, etc - Only for enterprise.

2. Blender - It is free, so why not use it. I use it to check my model. When, Clo failed to export fbx correctly, I use blender to repackage obj model into fbx. Some customer also request blender file. I'm very hopeful that blender will add features for garment creation. It already has cloth simulation but lack sewing functionality.

3. Marmoset Toolbag / Substance painter. - Optional. You can already do basic texturing in blender. I use marmoset to export marmoset viewer file.

4. Autodesk Maya - Never use it and hopefully never need to, because this will cost half of my salary every month. The only reason this software is in this list is because the fbx format is very popular. I hope this format will die soon.

5. Seamly / Valentina -  These are open source pattern-making software, so much better that adobe illustrator. One is the fork of another - I don't know which one. But seamly is better in my opinion because it has free user manual. Can produce very precise pattern. It is also very lightweight and can run on any computer. I use it to quickly test various measurement and ease amount on the same draft because can just input the measurement instead of redraft the whole thing.

6. Freecad, or any CAD softwares you are already familiar with. The 3D part of Freecad is quite awful compared to paid software but the 2D part is very good. It also support reference to spreadsheet data which is very handy to test various measurement.

7. Krita - People need to stop using photoshop and use this instead. Sometime I need to manually paint my UV map.
