I guess the alternative is to think more about local politics and unionize your workplace if you can. Beyond that, it’s a personal choice. I don’t blame people for voting for Democrats. I voted for Joe Biden, although I don’t think I will again. Individual voters should not feel responsible for the outcomes of national elections. Hillary Clinton lost because Hillary Clinton was a weak candidate (in 2008 and 2016). Donald Trump lost because he bungled COVID, the economy took a downturn, and people were sick of his antics. Democrats will lose in the midterms and in 2024 because they’re useless and negligent with their power. If you’re not beside yourself with anger and frustration with how poorly Democrats and Biden administration are doing, you must not be paying attention.

New Patron here. How do I view this on YouTube? Or how can I make the video full screen? Help!!!!

Democrats want to institute reforms but don't have enough unified votes in The Senate to pass any substantial legislation. They currently hold 50 seats with 2 Democrats that consistently vote with Republicans, so essentially 48 seats plus the VP. If they won a larger Senate majority those reforms could finally cross the floor. McConnell has literally been blocking all progressive laws since 2018.

When have I ever said people aren't allowed to criticize Biden? Of course they are. Criticizing centrist Dems is how we've gotten to a point that M4A is a legitimate policy goal within large swaths of the party, something that was basically unthinkable a decade ago. But criticizing centrist Dems to push the party left is NOT the same thing as the people essentially throwing their hands up and either not voting or voting for 3rd party candidates they know won't win. Because as I've explained before, we can see with Roe that Republicans winning carries far more dire consequences than Clinton or Biden doing so. And I will note that nowhere in any of the long posts any of y'all have responded to me with goes into any SPECIFIC details about what the alternative course of action is.

Alex

I agree with Marchmain, you're putting the blame on the wrong people. In 2016 we put up an unpopular corporate democrat rather than listening to where the excitement of the base was at. Clinton & Elite Democrats blames voters and Jill Stein for why she failed however her campaign never went to key swing states (i.e. Michigan and Wisconsin), held shitty voting records, and gave nothing to progressives to go out and vote for her(even if she didn't do it through policy, why not have a Bernie as VP? Or any progressive so it shows your willingness to work along side this wing of the party). The issue with blaming voters is that we fail to look into actionable items within the campaign that went wrong. The democratic leadership (aka Pelosi, Biden, Harris, etc) gaslight us into believing that the majority of the country agrees with centrist ideas because it benefits them to hold onto their power and seats. If you look into progressive issues you see that majority of the country, with bipartisan support, agrees on these issues (i.e. raising the minimum wage, universal health care, free college, etc). Take for example Florida, who voted for Trump in this last election however if you look at their ballot measures voted to increase the minimum wage. The base is not in touch with the wants and needs of voters. Biden ran on cancelling student debt, yet here we are waiting that promise to be met (he can easily do this at any point by the way through executive order). So why are we surprised that he's not popular with younger voters? Biden ran on a public option and expanding medicare, yet once again he failed to deliver. So why are surprised that the people suffering from medical debt is losing interest? (again another item Biden can deliver on using executive order). Right now Biden sits at a 30% approval rating. If we don't call this shit out NOW while we have time to fix things in time for the upcoming elections, then when are we allowed to talk about it? Coddling your base and politicians does not help win elections. This is the same as a parent who thinks their child does no wrong (or even worse acknowledges they're doing wrong an refuses to do anything about it). If Biden fails to meet the occasion, and assuming the base cares about winning, why not explore propping a more popular candidate? 2016 proved to us that we need to give a reason for voters to come out thats different from "trump bad, republican bad, democrat good". That is a failing strategy. Politicians (and other voters) need to stop blaming us for not coming out for them to vote when they underdeliver on their promises. We do not owe you our vote, you need to earn that shit. Yes compromise is important, however when you shit on the left time and time in order to cater to corporate donors why are you surprised that they become disenfranchised and stop voting or start voting third party? If corporate democrats are not bringing out voters maybe its a sign to stop propping up corporate democrats as our only option. If your messaging is not reaching us, maybe it's time to change your messaging. If your refusal to run on any of our key policies isn't winning us over, maybe its time to run on them and not shew them away as radical ideology. If we're not allowed to criticize Biden & Democratic leadership & strategy now, then when?

Is Monet winning All Stars Again?

Francis

On the flip side, is it not also shaming voters when people get mad at people who do vote for Democrats and accuse them of "accepting crumbs"? That's what the person I was responding to was doing. Bob I think comes at it from a pragmatic POV which is entirely valid. I think it is especially valid for people from one or more minority groups (black and queer in this instance) to be pragmatic about these things. Because if things go south and Republicans take total control of this country, it will be those people who suffer most.

Alex

I can’t believe Monet is coming to my hometown on Saturday..STAMPEDE!! I am working stampede but fingers crossed I can make it for the show!! I hope you have a great time in Calgary Monet!! If you want some good homemade pasta and great cocktails come to Cardinale 😂 or just get full up on bbq and mini donuts! 💗

Gray

I think the first thing that people should do is stop trying to shame voters and start shaming politicians. If people say they don't want to vote for democrats because of their absolute failure of leadership the past 2 years instead of taking out your anger at them direct it at the politicians. Put pressure on the politicians to get something done and earn our votes. If dems lose congress in 2022 and the White House in 2024 remember that it is not the fault of the voters. It is the fault of the politicians.

Marchmain

Bob was correct on this one with the midterms.

Exactly, like 2016 showed what happened when folks take the pathetic route of not voting Democratic bc they would rather piss and moan.

subsandy

Please explain how you would get Sinema and Manchin to support scrapping the filibuster so that more progressive bills could be passed. Or, alternatively, explain how those bills could be passed without doing that. Bob is being a pragmatist who takes current reality as it is and tries to work within it. The other approach many on the left half is frankly just getting mad we can't magically solve every issue right away and have no patience/ability to actually make smaller changes we can actually make right now to move us toward a better world. That's why they can never actually give concrete issues to these huge roadblocks like Manchin

Alex

Be specific. What do you want people to do? Not vote for the Democratic nominee? Vote for a third party? You can't just throw up your hands and not give concrete alternative steps. Because either one of those alternatives would just lead to Trump or DeSantis in the WH and a Republican Congress, and women, racial minorities, and queer people will be even more vulnerable than they are now. *Objectively* Roe would not have been overturned if Clinton had won. The Democrats would have filled Scalia's seat, RBG's when she died, then Breyer's. And suddenly there is a 5-4 LIBERAL majority on the SC and Roe is likely being strengthened, and definitely not overturned. So pass me on this narrative when we have objective proof since 2016 that yes, Republican lead governments are worse. I'm with Bob on this one.

Alex

I don’t know how you can witness Democrats’ response, or lack thereof, to the Supreme Court overturning Roe and still rally for team Democrat. If we keep accepting crumbs every election cycle, crumbs is all we’ll get. I’m with Lady Bunny on this one.

Like "gay" I can call myself a "Christian" and I can choose to not be in dissonance... which means if it doesn't fit with me, then it ain't part of Christianity. Jesus was a cool dude, the rest of this is nonsense. Opinions of opinions of opinions. #Tolerance #bodilyautonomy keep it simple.

Chris Fox

Pathetic half-measures have never ever paid off at the polls. See you in November lol

Dylan

You’re wrong. Dems are constantly passing bills or proposing bills that help the American people, but those bills cannot be passed because republicans don’t support them. They don’t have complete control of Congress and therefore cannot pass stuff.

Anthony Ashcraft

Democrats themselves have put together bills and actual solutions to problems, the issue here is that the Republicans block everything in the Senate.

subsandy

Pretty lame takes from Bob in this one. Sure the Democrats haven’t done *literally* nothing. No one is sincerely arguing that. But in terms of providing solutions that rise to these unprecedented times, they have been pretty useless.

Dylan

P.S. an “izakaya” is a specific kind of Japanese restaurant that has small plates and foods that go well with drinks! Kinda like Japanese tapas. Love that Monet loves an izakaya! ❤️
