People from Detroit do the same thing. I live in the Metro Detroit Area. When visiting my dad in Oregon I would tell people "I'm from Detroit" because they will have no idea where Hazel Park or Sterling Heights is. People from The City (which is what we call Detroit) have a huge problem with this. I'm not running around MY NEIGHBORHOOD saying "IM FROM THE CITY" , but when im out of state, its necessary.
