As someone who grew up in Trinidad until 17. We don't have a month because black history is just history. Covering from the what we called Amerindians or Natives , to slavery to the forming of the Republic and separation from British rule. Moving here, it was kind of crazy learning how little was taught or how watered down all the information is. That's why we get people saying oh "it was a choice". I understand why BHM is important but often feel disconnected on a lot of the American black experience as even though yes there's still prejudice in the Caribbean, there isn't systemic racism. It's hard and jarring to grasp for an outsider.

What’s sad is just like here in the USA Monet was taught more about colonizer wars in S.L than slavery. Just like every other country that had wars and used people who already lived there at their disposal. Happy Black History Month! Loved Bob’s passionate retelling of Harriet Tubman’s life, this really makes me want to watch the film on Amazon about her as I obviously know a lot less about her than I thought I did. It is also LGBTQ + history month in the UK at the moment, Black History Month for us is in October, so it is good to be celebrating both!

i read the good lord bird on bob’s recommendation (last black history month lol) and i can’t recommend it enough. as a mixed race british person (where black history is seriously not taught), i learnt a lot about slavery and american abolition and it genuinely made me feel in touch with my ancestors/ my ancestors cousins (i’m jamaican descent) ilyguys

Audre Lorde - Sister Outsider for essays and they wrote poetry and biomythography (I feel like BoB you may already have read from/ love this genre) There is a published conversation between Lorde and Adrienne Rich which I love (read: Yom Kippur 1984 just 'cause). Education on intersectionality as Monet brought up would mitigate a lot of violence within our community, I'm thinking of DL fuckery and protecting our trans fam. Now I have some Social Psych reading to do for Uni - you made a difference Robertha, this was a really motivating pod.

A white person using the N word is a form of hate speech so yes, Joe Rogan’s podcast should absolutely be taken off of Spotify. He’s also used this hate speech multiple times over 12 years, which further supports the reason to remove his privilege from possessing a massive platform on Spotify.
