How do I get you to engage?

I think the more personal slice of life videos draw me more towards liking and commenting. I’m only new so in a few weeks I’ll leave a more informed answer. I love it here already though.

I'm never really on here enough to engage really--maybe if we ask you questions that get answered in videos, instead of just picking particular ones, all of them get answered and its a part 1/part 2 type deal? Of course skip the ones that are the same but I think that might be one step at least cause then everybody who asked a question, they feel like they're being answered and its not just picking out of the ones you like. That's my suggestion! :D

I use the patreon website, not the app, and just watch picture-in-picture while I'm working. I get the desire to have more discussion, but do the hearts do anything for you guys? For me, I feel like they are mostly useful for saving stuff you want to revisit later. So far I've just listened to each episode once so I never use them.

I always like the post but commenting seems futile for me because scrolling through all the comments on my phone can take up to 30 minutes to get to the top so it just feels a little useless, especially when I’m trying to check to see if anyone else mentions what I’m thinking about. For me I don't feel that making a comment means I am engaing with you. Maybe its because it dosen't feel conversational commenting on a video post so I have never been drawn to do so. In all honesty even when a comment in the video is made to comment below I tend to ignore it because I think whats the point I'm only really talkig to myself. However responding to a question like this one feels more of a draw to comment because I feel like I am contributing to something.

I think I wrote I love you all so much and helping me as an ER doctor get through the pandemic. I’m in a state where cases continue to rise and people don’t want to get vaccinated. I’ve listened to most of your posts two to three times because it brings a joy to my heart. It’s hard when you are putting so many people on high flow oxygen or a ventilator to go into work with a smile. You all help me release some steam…you are amazing!

I think sometimes it feels like the other patrons are more likely to see the comments than y’all. As many have said, I was unaware y’all went through all the comments. It’s kind of like I’m a small fish in a big ocean, will they really read it? And if they do, how will I know? I heart all the episodes but don’t particularly comment out of my own insecurity, getting dragged by another patron or for the simple fact that “I said what I said.” With that being said, thanking you for making me laugh when I need it, educating me on topics I don’t always know where to learn from and being the only Patreon I subscribe to because you ARE those gurls 💙💙💙

In a different podcast community, I used to listen on Apple podcasts and have a different tier with bonus episodes available WITHIN the Apple podcast app. Might just be me being lazy, but I really liked having it all in one place. I honestly think it's just a patreon issue. The way in which it's set up isn't conducive to conversations. I think it's pretty common for the large majority of users in social media communities to lurk and passively engage (liking/voting in polls) as opposed to commenting and messaging, etc. But I totally second the discord idea for encouraging people to engage more. I’m sure other people mentioned it before, but making a discord server for sibling rivalry Patreon subscribers could be a good way to increase or keep up patron engagement. Discord has become a staple for many communities during the pandemic to communicate about whatever topic/issue they have in common, so it’s a great option if more user engagement is something y’all are looking for.

Im sure some people just like the vibe and lurk silently but feel content here 🤷🏾‍♀️. But this app IS crunchy af. I think the discord idea is a good one to look into. You can even have people from here moderate it so that it’s not more work on your (well, Jacob’s) end. And I do agree with the patrons who mentioned engagement. They are just so many of us that some people don’t get responses (or brought to talk on the zooms) and I would imagine that keeps them from engaging in the future. Not me tho. I’m apparently perfectly fine with talking to myself 🥴. But that’s what it feels like so I can understand people not choosing to do that. More advanced warnings on some of the lives cuz I can sometimes rearrange things but not always at the last minute and I love the zooms (I joined one during my first ever trip to Disney World) so missing them makes me sad, especially cuz (and I swear this isn’t a drag) they’re kinda infrequent and if I miss one, there probably won’t be one for at least a week or 2. They’re my favorite part of being in this tier.

Make more videos highlighting the commenters the good bad or indifferent. Y’all addressed the comments once in a confrontational manner when the step dad trier was added but other than that y’all pay us dust 🥲🤎. Love you both 🤞🏾

If you really want to create a community and encourage people to talk about stuff discord is great for that. You can create multiple channels which could be organized by topic, encourage people to post pictures of themselves or their pets, etc. I feel like I, and many others, comment on Instagram or Patreon when we have something short and quippy to say but I never really think of the comments as a chat forum unless there's some crazy fight and I wanna throw my hat in the ring.

Honestly, I think most people use patreon to help support creators, but don't use it to engage/ interact with each other. The only time I interact is when a creator posts a poll. Patreon just doesn't seem to be a space for engaging. I think that's why so many creators open up a Discord.

For those who don’t have social media apps downloaded, it would be cool if we got a heads up on patreon when y’all are going live on IG or stereo so we can join you there too; I seem to never get notifications for YouTube either, even though I’m subscribed. I started doodling a tribute to the oprah book club sticker with bob's logo for the eventual book club, then thought about opening a sticker design contest with a poll for the winner in the community tab and then printing and sending the stickers to patrons who were interested but it started sounding like too big of a project to take on haha. I know that's not what you're asking but maybe interactive stuff could engage more patrons

I find it hard to comment since I use the app and whenever I open comments it makes my phone lag (and I have an iPhone 12 Pro too! so I can’t imagine how laggy it would be on older phones). I can leave a comment but engaging with other users is almost impossible with the amount of lag there is when loading other comments. In my case it is not that you guys are not being engaging, but rather how difficult it can be to engage through the app. However if you guys want to go a step further and create a community where engaging is super easy, I would suggest using Discord. I’m pretty sure you can set it so that only Patreons can join it too. I use Discord constantly so if you have any questions let me know. The Discord social media is also pretty helpful too!

I've had the same difficulty with patreon and I think people just aren't used to it as a social platform, so they don't think about interacting with it in the same way. Also, I believe you have to be logged in to comment, which may deter some people, especially if they can just read the post or click the Youtube link in their email. I agree with other patrons about polls. They are less intimidating. I like when you post a poll regarding something mentioned in the episode, because then it makes me feel like I need to watch it to be in on the joke. Incentives always work too. Like you could try an AMA type post once a month or week and respond to the comments directly, or make a video answering the best questions.

The app sucks! Many creators I follow give their Patreon supporters a Discord exclusive link communicate with each other! It also uses video chat as well as regular chat. It’s great and I suggest it 1000%

I do feel shy about commenting but I'll try change that here! I tend to stay away from comments sections in general. I just get overwhelmed when I see so many comments already and feel like my lil comment will get buried.

I just like to watch for entertainment during a boring workday. I click the heart sometimes but I don’t comment. I’m old. I think of y’all like a TV show I enjoy. For example I get HBO but it would never cross my mind to write to them. If I like a show-great. If I don’t like a show - it’s simply not for me and I’ll watch something else.

I “like” just to acknowledge that I watched or saw something that was posted. Didn’t think anyone really read them. Also, these comments be like ppl really know y’all lol, I’m still getting comfortable….

Patreon comments are not the best for interacting with. I comment from time to time but if someone responds to me I get an email saying someone commented but there is no way to bring me directly back and see that comment. I have to go back through all the comments to find it.

The Patreon UI is really terrible on mobile, which is generally what I use. I feel like I can’t really get a good grasp on what folks are talking about based on the current comment design and I assume everything I have to say has probably been discussed. Also, I don’t comment much anywhere because of social anxiety. It’s not y’all, it’s me and Patreon.

patreon is honestly just a difficult platform to be on and isn’t as easy to use or interact with. it kind of only has the base features of a social media site and a streaming site but none of the necessities to make that really work. i think that’s worked for other creators is making a private group on facebook, twitter, etc where people can interact and have all the necessary tools.

I would suggest maybe creating a Discord channel using the app Discord. It's a great communication app that a lot of people use now a days. You can make different channels for different topics for an easy way to focus conversations. It works well, and it looks nice.

Ppl like me who always want to run our mouths will, and some people simply talk less. I rarely access patreon (or any app) on a desktop. It is beyond your control but FYI.

I will heart people’s comments, then when I log in on my computer it will be a completely different person’s comment that was hearted. Sometimes I get to the post late so there are already so many comments I don’t feel like if I respond anyone will see or care lol. So basically my own self esteem gets in the way but I’ll try to be better

Honestly, the sheer size and amount of comments gets incredibly overwhelming and I find myself unwilling to comment since I doubt it will add to any conversation or I see something far to late to contribute.

I would say for me it’s probably mostly the of feeling like my comment would get lost in the sea comments

personally I just don’t think Patreon has a great comment section 🤷🏽‍♀️ which sucks cuz I want to engage with y’all more and the rest of the family as well.

Honestly a different platform is better for engagement . The interface on patreon is awful for commenting and interacting especially on phones.

I do engage but I can imagine who don’t comment do so because the platform here isn’t conducive to group convos so easily! You can only see so many comments at a time and all that and the mobile app is kinda finicky
