Yeah, Atlanta pride moved to October when there was a horrible drought in Georgia. The grass wasn’t surviving the foot traffic. I do think October is better due to the humid heat in June.

Yea plenty of corporations just virtue signal for PR purposes during Pride, I agree with Monet. Corporations like Walmart, Mickey D’s, UPS and plenty more put on that rainbow logo and use Pride for their marketing campaigns. Plenty donate to politicians that actively work against the queer community such as voting against the Equality Act. It’s local and community businesses that people encourage to collaborate with. Corporations can eat dookie.

If you are interested in learning more, I would highly recommend Gayle Rubin's work - particularly in Leatherfolk: Radical Sex, People, Politics and Practice (Alyson Books, 1991) as a primer. The text contains essays from well known queer kink leaders and the relationships between the two, including histories. Rubin is/was deeply connected to the San Francisco scene starting in the 1970s and the GLBT Historical Society. It is a primer but I always like recommending it!

Part of the problem with the yearly pride discourse over what’s appropriate at pride is that we need to educate queer youth on queer history / they need to do their research. A lot of people probably don’t know a lot about the history between leather and kink communities and the queer community (I’m still learning myself) and are probably just misinformed about nudity at pride in general. Another thing that bothers me is that the people who want a pride without those things could easily try to add an event to their liking, but they insist on *taking away* from others. If people want pride events without those things, you do you and make it happen, but don’t take away things from grown adults!
