I went to court for a traffic ticket. The judge said I had to pay $400 by 6pm. I asked for clarification and said"I have until 6pm?" And the judge pointed to my boyfriend and said "HE has until 6pm. BAILIFF!" And they put my 22 year old ass in cuffs, and put me in a jail cell. My boyfriend went to borrow the money. If he didn't get back by 6pm I would be taken to county jail. Luckily he came back within a few hours and I was released. But yeah, I was thrown in jail for not having the money. 100%

Poor Monet. You don't go "with the flow of traffic" if the flow is speeding. Over the speed limit is speeding. Even 1 mile over is speeding. Most cops won't pull you over for that because most judges would dismiss it, BUT. THEY. CAN. They DONT USUALLY pull you over for less that 5 over, but they absolutely can. You go the speed LIMIT. ITS A LIMIT. Not a suggestion. Limit.

Hey Bob. I love you, you're amazing, but not every state is like Georgia. I know for a fact that in Washington state, you cannot be arrested for showing up to court and not being able to pay your fines. They can set up a payment plan and work with you to get your fines squared away, but you cannot go to jail for not being able to pay, certainly not for a traffic violation. California is probably the same. Maybe that's the case in Georgia, in which that is really fucked up, but it is not a federal law, which is key in this context. And I realize their incident with the bridge happened in New York, but the whole thing with paying your fines in court still applies. Payment plans do exist. Now in certain red states, especially for people of color, that may not exist for them or they might just be getting fucked over. But it is definitely not a federal law that you must have money to pay your fine in court or you go to prison.

Worst car ever, all the plastic “chrome plating” started peeling back and cutting my fingers when I needed to open the door, and half of my windows didn’t roll down by the time I totaled it by running over a semi truck tire scrap on the freeway. It’s come up a lot lately on the show; whether it’s your own journey, gaining weight for a role, or even body shape and size on the RPDR Main Stage. It’s a deep and personal thing to discuss, and I think it’s important for people to share their journeys. I’m grateful for your willingness to share and I’m proud to celebrate your fitness goals/journeys with you. However, the discussion often turns into vague (sometimes blatant) fat-phobia. A good example is Monet putting air quotes when talking about “healthy” weight gain, or both of you discussing gaining muscle as positive, and gaining fat as a problem that needs solving. A lot of healthy people live in fat bodies, and there are a lot of us are in this community! They’re also much more likely to completely dismiss minor charges, like tail lights being out, if you can show proof that you fixed the issue within a couple of days of the ticket & you have a clean-ish record. Granted, all of my experience is in SE VA, so it might be different in other parts of VA.

In Virginia, they ask you to put down what you can, put you on a payment plan, then you have another court date to make sure everything has been paid. You can also pay the ticket in full prior to 24 hours to your court date & don’t even have to go in.

I feel so validated bc i do not like to drive. It gives me anxiety and I lost my sister in a car accident. When I do drive I’m always like 5 under the speed limit bc it’s a LIMITT. In texas people be crazy tho i think 50+ people have been killed this year in houston alone bc of traffic fights

It is a state to state thing. In SC, you can pay the ticket by the due date or go to the court and they may reduce the ticket and extend the due date. I have absolutely went to court, left court and paid the ticket a week later. You can most definitely go to jail if you dont pay it, but a warrant will be issued.

Yeeeeah Bob this must be a GA thing. In VA, when you even get a court date, your fees aren’t even due at that time. So you can fully show up to court and still have two weeks to pay your ticket. And in VA you don’t even have to show up to court you just have to have the fee paid by the due date on the ticket. Really, the only reason to show up to court (in VA) is to dispute the ticket.

In Oregon you go to court without money. If you are forced to pay a fine then you are sent to the office to figure out a payment plan which could be any amount you want, even $10 a month. Def not sending you to jail if you go to court without money. Some Georgia BS or your friend left out some pieces to the story. 😂

In Jefferson county NY I got 3 tickets, I paid half the first time, made a payment arrangement the second time and didn’t show up the third time. I’ve never been to jail and you don’t know how much the ticket is until you get there.

It low key sounds like Bob's experiences are more heightened than most (probably due to his skin color) I've had multiple experiences with the law & have never experienced any of what Bob had to endure. From LA too, and that’s for the first court date tho, if you choose to fight the ticket (rather than pay it or set up a payment plan) they give you another court date. When you come back is what bob’s talking about. They tell you if you don’t have the funds if you’re found guilty they will detain you

The court dates are usually scheduled far in advance, and they explicitly tell you when you choose to file a court date rather than pay the original fine that you have to have the money for the fine if you are found guilty and made to pay the fine, or be “detained”. You also have to pay court filing costs and fees, so you end up paying more than the original ticket (an incentive to pay the ticket ASAP and not go to court)

I'm from the UK and got a speeding ticket driving a rented camper van in Australia. I had no idea until 2 months later when i received my ticket in the post at my UK address. They take your car reg number and send the charge to the registered address (i.e. the rental place), who have the details who have each car and when as well as your licence details that contain your address. That's how they get you Bob. Also, they didn't actually care if i paid it and i was pleased to find out you don't get points on your UK licence for this as their penalty system is different. They made it really difficult to pay and in the end i only ended up paying because a year after the ticket i was heading back to Oz and wanted to rent again and didn't want to be in trouble but when i called, they seem confused as to why i'd bothered! I've had 2 speeding tickets in my life, the other was in NZ, both were in camper vans haha

Georgia WILL NOT let you leave without paying that ticket however, I have lived in GA, MS, TX, OK, and LA.....TX, MS, and LA have allowed me to leave either to get the money or set up a payment plan. I live in GA I got a ticket after an accident I went to court and told the lawyer that I wasn't able to pay. The lawyer asked when I could have it I gave him a date and the bailiff walked me to a counter where I was given another court date. I was told I would be expected to pay my fine on that date..... Just like Monet said we do not know all the circumstances and laws may have changed since then. My experience was pretty recent (2019). I didn't even have to sit through court when I showed up the next time I just paid my fine and left.

I had to stop this during the ticket argument to say that IM GLAD I LIVE IN TEXAS! In that situation Monèt is completely right! You show up for your court date, talk to the judge, and then after you usually get to go pay and if the money is in the car you can go get it. If you can’t pay that day you can usually do a payment plan!
