So, I'm on Methadone Maintenance Treatment. (Methadone and Methamphetamines are NOT NOT NOT the same thing.) I was addicted to vicoden for years. I was taking upwards of 40 pills a day. I started taking methadone. Methadone isnt microdosing, and its **not** different drugs given to different people based on what they were addicted to. It's not like heroin users get a little bit of heroin, and vicoden users get a little bit of vicoden. That is not not not what methadone is. Methadone is a drug that comes in pill form and liquid, it is a synthetic opioid agonist. It acts on the same receptors in your brain that other opioids, such as heroin and vicoden, acts on. It basically fools your brain into believing that it's taken vicoden or heroin. It carries the added benefit of being able to BLOCK the effects of narcotics. You can no longer FEEL any narcotic you take because those receptors are saturated in a synthetic opioid already. Your brain already thinks it's high - but it's not and can't be. I've been on treatment for about 12 years. I see a doctor once a month, more if I need to. I see a counselor twice a month. I'm under the supervision of a doctor. I get a LOOOOTTTT of heat for being on treatment because people seem to think that I'm doing "just a little bit of drugs" - which isn't what's going on. I have a disease: addiction. This is the treatment for my disease. It's no different from a person with high blood pressure taking hydrochlorothiazide. I don't get high from it. From the exact day that I started methadone maintenance treatment I have not taken anything. I don't smoke weed. I don't drink. I smoke cigarettes and I drink way too much coffee. I just wanted to clear up some misconceptions. Love yall.

Tylenol itself is only acetaminophen. The ones you mentioned are prescription versions. Tylenol which is just acetaminophen is available over the counter in the US. In some places, like Canada, you are able to get Tylenol with codeine over the counter. The weakest ones, anyway.

It is interesting you say that, because I once asked my psychiatrist what made me taking prescribed amphetamine for ADHD different from someone taking speed. He explained to me that it is because I am doing so under his supervision/direction, I have to keep coming back to him to get a new prescription b/c it is a controlled substance, therefore I always have to check in with him. And obviously I am getting the drug itself from a pharmacy, so I in theory know what is in it, since it is approved by the FDA So really, the only major difference I see is my usage is being supervised by a professional and the drug is being supplied by qualified people. But I get withdrawal when I don't have it. But I need it to function in my every day life, a doctor says it is ok, so therefore I guess it is not addiction? 😅. Medicine/drugs are confusing things. I think that is one of the reasons the opioid crisis fucked so many people. In theory everything should have been ok since the meds were prescribed by doctors and distributed by qualified people. Sigh...

I love you, but NOT TRUE Monet. I’m a drug addict, addicted to opiates (oxy, vicodin, Percocet, etc), been sober for over 12hrs. Everyone is affected differently from opiates. I didn’t take more than what was prescribed, but I took them to get high, not for pain. Didn’t drink when I took them either. Prescriptions can be just as bad, or worse, then “street” drugs. Kratom and K2 are also bad. I’ve worked in a treatment center too...so if you are gonna do anything just stick with pot.

I mean, I get what you’re saying, but as someone trained as a therapist I just wanted to chime in here in case it helps. You’re absolutely right that things aren’t black and white, but I think the field has moved toward the position that addictive personalities don’t exist. You can have a genetic predisposition to becoming addicted, you can learn from your early environment that addiction alleviates pain, etc. but the emotional and genetic components aren’t an addictive personality. The closest PD to “addictive personality” would be one of the major mood dysregulation disorders like borderline PD, but not all people with BPD suffer from addiction. A lot of the field now takes an accumulation approach where they look at biopsychosocial factors that in tandem boil over and push someone into addiction, but there’s no set addictive PD that could clearly define all those risk factors. Does that make sense?

social work student here: we learn in substance abuse classes how addiction isnt just about chemical dependence. a lot of people get addicted because their body gets hooked. but for some people its an emotional addiction, so for example some people abuse drugs because of mental health, isolation, etc. so monet saying some people just dont have an addictive personality is a bit ignorant; addiction isnt black andwhite like that and it really can happen to anyone

I love Bob and Monet, but the talk over antibiotics was very concerning. As a pharmacist, I am telling you it is so important to finish antibiotic therapy. All of it! The reason is if there are any organisms that live through the first few days and you stop taking them once you feel better you give those organisms a chance to adapt to said antibiotic, creating super bugs resistant to antibiotics

Also just in case it's helpful to anyone, if I just want to get a happy and energetic high to escape from depression, I usually smoke strains that have 'haze' in the name. If I need help relaxing and lowering anxiety, I smoke G13, a haze mixed with G13 or other available strains that give a clear head high

Coming from someone who went from a very casual weed smoker to a frequent one during the pandemic, Monet is absolutely right that you need to learn about weed and how to dose to enjoy it because every strain makes you diffrent levels of high and/or stoned. Some target the head, other the body. I myself choose to only use strains that target the head. At first I only used to use strains that made me more high and energetic, because it slightly helped with depression, but recently I unintentionally switched to strains that made me a little less high and a little more stoned. The calming/relaxing effects they have on my head tremendously help against not only depression but also with the high levels of anxiety that have been burdening me for years. I can think much clearer now, am more at peace, and get to enjoy life more. I really do advice you find out what the effects and intensity of a strain are before consuming it, and not just smoke anything to fit in with a crowd. If you don't know what you're in for and/or you don't know your limit, too much will lead to things like Bob's experiences

I had strep throat for 2 months straight. Would take all my medicine and start to feel better but as soon as I ran out I would get sick again after a couple of days. They eventually took my tonsils out but it really fucked w me to know that pills or no pills I was still getting sick.

I appreciated this discussion. I’ve been a chronic pain patient for 18 yrs after permanent nerve damage in my spinal cord and subsequent arthritis. I’ve had 11 surgeries. There is a lot of misinformation because people don’t understand the difference in addiction, physical dependence and tolerance. My pain dr once told me people who have dental surgery and are then given much more pain medication then they need are more likely to develop addiction then someone who has terrible, chronic pain and takes their meds as prescribed. More often then not, If there’s real pain to be addressed, there is no “high”. I’ve not once experienced that in 18 yrs. This discussion really hit home for me, and I found it difficult to weigh in, but I’m tired of feeling ashamed.

It's important to finish your doctors dosage of anti-biotics because if you don't, you don't fully flush out whatever you're taking them for and the become resistant to anti-biotics. I'm pretty sure it's like a really big deal.

This is why we have ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE! Because people take some but not all of it. You have to take the full course otherwise antibiotics won't work anymore because the bacteria become resistant! No no no!

Monét! Bob is correct about antibiotics, you need to take a full cycle of antibiotics. If you skip or don’t complete it the bacteria/infection is likely to develop antibiotic resistance. Basically when you stop when you just feel better the stronger slightly resistant bacteria stay and multiply, keeping you infected. Next time you take the antibiotics they will be slightly less effective since you didn’t finish your cycle before!

methodone and methemphatimine is not the same thing. methodone clinics are for opiate addiction. crystal meth or methemphatimine is completely different than opiates. this pod cast is so wrong, you can die from withdrawals of alcohol and opiates., you cannot die from withdrawal from crystal meth but you can havre a mental break and hallucinate from lack of sleep and go into a major psychotic break.

you're both right actually. you should take all of your doctors recommended dosage for antibiotics. Percocet, oxycodone, hydrocodone, Vicodin, are all the same thing. Percocet is oxycodone combined with Tylenol. Tylenol enhances the opioid. they are all opiates. like morphine or heroine. it is all the same thing, they bind to your pain receptors and release dopamine from your brain. that's where the high comes from. if you take the drugs as prescribed when you have real severe pain you will likely not get high. it is when you take the medicine more than the dose prescribed or take the med when you have no pain, you will get high and if you take too much will overdose. opioids effect your breathing and heart rate. my major point is that heroin, Percocet, oxycodone, morphine, Vicodin, dilaudid, hydrocodone, and even fentanyl are all the same drug called an opioid that have different fillers or are man made.

Nurse here. Bob was 100% right about finishing your antibiotics. People not finishing the full prescription is part of the reason why we have bugs like super gonorrhea now (a strain resistant to antibiotics). When you’re feeling better the infection is still present. The medication is doing its job and has slowed down the bacteria making you feel sick. But it needs time to completely rid of the entire infection. If you stop taking the meds, the remaining bacteria (which was strong enough to survive the previous doses of medication) will come back with a vengeance. So... please finish your entire prescription.

The amount of misinformation about opiates is crazy lol. Vicodin and percocets are not strong, they come in small doses (vicodin is hydrocodone, percocet is oxycodone) and both are mixed with acetaminophen. Even though they are not strong doses someone who doesn't take opiates can definitely get high from just taking one, even with out mixing it with anything. It effects different people differently. Methadone clinics are for people with opiate addictions, methadone is not used to treat any other kind of addiction. Is used less now a days with suboxone available but methadone is an opiate given to people to either medically help them taper off opiates or because they're been on opiates for so long that there body has a very difficult time functioning off opiates and/or have failed other treatments that their best option is to be given opiates in a medically supervised setting.

Microdosing is NOT the same thing as a methodone clinic!!!! My ex was a heroin addict taking methodone and when he would forget he would abuse me horribly and act insane. I microdose shrooms somewhat regularly and it helps so greatly with my depression and anxiety and when i stopped doing it for a year there’s absolutely NO side effects. Psychedelics and hard drugs are VERY different. Alcohol and psychedelics are Very very different. I'm a pharmacist and I had to pause the video to implore Monet to please not think that pharmacists are pushing antibiotics. We get paid by the hour, no commission, we are health care professionals and the reason why you are asked to take the entire course of antibiotics is because a) just because you feel better does not mean you have completely eradicated the infection, you've just lessened the bacterial load and therefore feel better and b) the bacteria are more likely to develop resistance when you don't kill them all the first time! Which means the next time the bacteria infect someone, or the infection flares up in you with a vengeance, your antibiotic options are limited! There are entire teams of doctors and pharmacists in hospitals devoted to reducing the chances of antimicrobial resistance because it's so damn scary.

You are correct about doctors over prescribing antibiotics leading to people forming resistances to them... that is not the same as being correctly prescribed antibiotics for something that requires them to heal an infection, and not taking the entire course of pills in the bottle. Bob is correct about completing a course and taking them as prescribed when they are necessary for the ailment; if you do not complete the course, the same thing will occur and the seemingly dormant infection will build up a resistance to that particular antibiotic. There are also dozens of antibiotics on the market if you do unfortunately build tolerance to the most commonly prescribed.

FRIENDSHIP!!!!!!!! when the Friends Being In The Same Place Together hit anyway, MONET, people going "i feel better and don't have to finish my antibiotics uwu" is a HUGE pet peeve for nurses lmfao, it happens a lot because people conflate their symptoms with their actual infliction. and then they're in there a few months later like "can't believe i'm sick again, i need more." you would not need more if you had fully cured the problem! here's the thing - when you Feel Sick, what's causing those feelings is just the symptoms. just because you are no longer symptomatic does not mean you aren't carrying that bacteria anymore. that's why you have to finish your antibiotics - you're stopping when there is still a little bit left, and bacteria are living organisms, so they just start reproducing when you quit taking the antibiotics. As someone who takes care of detox patients often, that shit is CRAZY. Also we don’t “micro dose” with booze to bring someone down. We push Ativan to prevent seizures and then other drugs when the violence/hallucinations/aggression hits 48 hours later. Sometimes we have to completely put people in a medical coma to protect them and us. I’ve had a man punch me in the stomach and not remember it 3 days later because he was withdrawing. I’ve also taken care of people 40-50 years old who are fluorescent yellow because their liver is dead and they have 3 months to live. Alcohol is actual poison.

Coming from someone that smokes cigarettes, personally I don’t feel that burning sensation that bob was talking about. I will say though when I first inhaled a cigarette I did cough and it did kinda feel like it was burning. But I think because bobs not a smoker that’s why he felt the way he did. For example it’s just like when you go to the gym for the first time in so long and your body is so sore from doing, i see it as your body telling you “since when do you go to the gym?” And for a non smoker it will be the same “since when do you smoke?”

i recognize i'm only commenting on monet's comments but she made a great point about drugs being used in medical environments now - like ketamine has been approved for use for persistent depressive disorder (and possibly other conditions) where people have tried multiple different kinds of medications and life changes with no real impact. yes, drugs can be a gateway for those with addictive tendencies and it's everyone's responsibility to check our relationships with any substances or affinities, but honestly there's a lot of therapeutic value. and monet can call me if she wants someone to join her in joshua tree to do mushrooms. colleen can hang with my cats.

Medical advice from an Ivy-educated Black doctor: 1. It IS important to finish a full course of antibiotics, mostly importantly to prevent the development of antibiotic-resistant pathogens. Doing a partial course will usually (but not always) control microbes enough that your immune system can handle it. What can happen by only doing a partial course, though, is that the microbes that are very sensitive the antibiotic are wiped out, but the ones that are only somewhat or not at all sensitive to the antibiotic survive. If your immune system can’t handle them, they’re then able to reproduce and pass on the genes that give them antibiotic resistance. 2. The term “allergy” is over-used. A true allergy is present when the immune system overreacts to a seemingly benign stimulant, causing hives, rash, swelling, anaphylaxis, etc. Lots of people have poor reactions to drugs – ex. For opioids, common reactions beyond the intended one (pain relief/analgesia) are sedation/drowsiness and nausea/GI upset. Those reactions can be problematic and unpleasant, and definitely need to be taken into account when prescribing those meds, but they technically are not allergies. 3. Oxycontin is the brand name for the drug oxycodone (an opioid/narcotic). Percocet is the brand name for a pill that contains both oxycodone and acetaminophen (Tylenol). Vicodin is the brand name for a pill that contains both hydrocodone and acetaminophen. The term “opioid” refers to a class of drugs that is known for its analgesic/pain-killing properties, including but not limited to codeine, oxycodone, hydrocodone, morphine, heroin, and fentanyl. “Narcotic” is the term used by law-enforcement to describe such drugs. 4. Opioids DO get you high on their own; different people have different tolerances. The opioid epidemic arose because of over-prescription of opioids for management of chronic pain conditions, thus resulting in addiction. When docs then cut the stream of pills off, people who are now addicts move onto the black market for pills and/or heroin.

I was very much like Bob when it comes to drugs especially weed but with my partner about two years ago I started micro dosing before bed to help me sleep mostly CBD and a little THC and it's great. If you don’t finish your antibiotics, the remaining bacteria/pathogens will develop resistance to the antibiotic you were taking and you won’t be able to take that same antibiotic for that infection.
