The One About Black Hair

This is our new episode for the week--We'll  now be releasing them a little bit earlier for you on here. 😘❤️❤️❤️

The One About Black Hair

Comments

Firsstt off white people be obsessed with moisturizing idk what ashy honkys you knew monet! Seconddd idk bout others but i scrub with an exfoliator rag n a pound of body wash AND use sugar scrubs THANK you!! Xoxoxoxoxo

My natural hair journey has been so rocky.

Salvatore ♱

honestly white hair/makeup artists have no excuse not to know how to do black hair/makeup, like ur a whole ass professional and u don't know how to do your job on people that have a different hair type or skin color than u? it literally takes the most basic level of self-awareness and effort to learn how to work with black hair and it should rly be universally expected of all hair stylists tbh. end of rant soz!

omg Monet the boy weave was cute. i just watched the UK video

I think what she said was "I don't know why these Black men are talking about hair when they're both bald as hell" (if you're talking about the comment at 15:35)

whoever that girl was talking about black women be bald, choke bitch. block her ass.

Redeana Ramsey

I feel like so seen from the comment about how we often don't know what to do with out hair as black people!!! I have such an " inbetween" texture that has only gotten more difficult after having my daughter 1.5 years ago that I seriously had to reflect on how much trial and error it took to get to ao.ethi g that worked for my hair while natural, and it's still a process as I work with my daughter's hair! Also, the dreds situation Bob talked about is so my husband's life. Its ridiculous how intrigued white folks are by his dreds and then also how insulting the comments they make can be.

I don’t know what white people you've been around, but that’s crazy to hear about not using a wash cloth or lotion!?!? My mom always taught me to use the wash cloth or loofah with soap and to put lotion on after I shower. Maybe it’s because I’m in Minnesota and it gets cold and dry up here.

Rebekah

When it comes to hair, I believe it comes from your mother’s side. My mom said side all have lots of hair, curls and thick. My dads side is thin and balding. Both my brother and I have a lot of hair. I’m 37 and he’s 41

Rebekah

that roblox question had me weak and y’all’s confusion added on to it lol

Heriberto Rodriguez

That and exfoliating ;-)

Damien Helfer

As a curly haired person I found that "Bumb Stopper-2" really helps with preventing ingrown hair.

Damien Helfer

Y'all better play roblox on twitch so help me. That was so precious of them to get on there and ask that

Jordan M Badeaux

Thank you hun. Yeah, it was rough and it still kinda is. Tbh it’s hard to find a good trusting beautician.

Omg I’m sorry this happened to you! Before I was natural if was very rough out there at black salons. I definitely try to learn things myself before I go to a salon because I don’t trust ‘beauticians’.

Adrianna

Bob, I’m sorry that happened to you. I was natural from a young age because the relaxer would just break my hair off, so I would get silk presses. The shampoo lady at the salon I used to go to as a kid would be rough with my hair and tell me that that I needed to get a perm and this was the last time she was going to touch my hair. Then I would get into the beauticians chair and she would be having phone sex while doing my hair.

Gurl. Monet. We saw the toupee with your gorgeous stoned boots and coat looking fab in the airport. You looked amazing 😘

Hi Bob and Monet! Another great podcast. In regards to black women balding around the temples, it's called traction alopecia, and it doesn't just happen to them but it's understandable if it occurs more commonly within the black community because of the greater efforts made to style hair. It's caused by regularly wearing your hair in a tight ponytail, bun, or braids, especially if you use chemicals or heat on your hair. It happens to women in the military because their hair can't touch the collar of their uniform, and it happens to a lot of professional athletes. #themoreyouknow

Aubrey Benmark

Its a race thing but they already explained why so i wont

I just finished listening to the episode, as a white woman I can say that I think white people just like to touch hair in general? When I was a little girl I rocked some CURLS like the little girl from the Pepsi commercial, do you remember her? People would literally call me Curly Sue and I would be out with my mom and people would come up and touch my hair ALL THE TIME and as a sassy ass bitch at that ripe young age with undiagnosed (and therefore unmediated) ADHD I was NOT about to let that stand. Or I would just cry.

Omg that was my first time seeing Jacob. He's so cute :).

On the topic of white people not using wash cloths, lotion, washing their hair daily etc I want to say... this is white cis MEN. The typical white dude has no idea how to take care of themselves and uses 2 in 1 shampoo for their hair and body lmao. White girls (in my experience) are made to moisturize starting in childhood to avoid wrinkles. I mean I am sure some of these comments you guys got were from women because we can suck just as much but I promise white men are the crustiest of all time

Emma

Why everyone who called in sound sleepy? 😂😂

Astoldbyzee

i wanted to open up a queer poc barbershop/salon for the same thing that happened to me that happened to bob. sending love

mia Arevalo

"the haircut that hurt my feelings" 🤣 💀 - mine happened when I was 20. I was in denial and freaking out to my mom, she looked at me and said "don't be one of those people that's hanging on to something you don't have" . Since then i've been shaving my head and I'm thankful i didn't hang on too long haha

im seeing the title before i watch. is yall about to talk about gigi goode and the case of all this nigga hair

Christopher Davis

I taught 25 yrs in a high school with primarily black students and remember them starting conversations about hair pretty often. I always encouraged them to be themselves and to love themselves as they were and not as someone told them they should be.

MaryJo Anderson (JojoMama1965)

How did that lil kid get on stereo, you have to be 18 to use the app lol

Caeden Carlisle

not Monet saying “no I’m not doing that shit” to a child. I felt that 😩

Nia

With Gigi Goode

That wig scam story...I’m so mad that the story mad my back hurt. Insta is great because it allows so many people to self promote and thrive but you really need to weed out the scammers. It’s a god damn shame.smh

I really think Bob & Monet should open a LGBTQIA+ Barbershop

Christopher M Ramos

Not monet serving season 1 drag race filter EDIT: oh it’s better :)

Pigpen 🇸🇻🇲🇽

I was a hairdresser for ten years and I was horrified by Bobs traumatic childhood haircut, that would have never happened at a place where I ever worked. Restraining kids for haircuts isn’t legal, and it’s dangerous.

My momma bear woke right the fuck up when Bob was telling that barber story. Instant rage. I'm so sorry that happened to you.

We need that Monet weave video!! Would make my life!

Katie Gesser

Lmao at the little kid asking them about Roblox

Since I was in middle school till when I was 26 I had a relaxer. I moved to Japan at 25 and my first year here my manager hated the way my hair smelled because I used black hair products. She told me to switch to Japanese products. She then asked my coworker if black people showered. After leaving that job I went natural. I've been natural for 4 1/2 years but sadly my hair journey has had to happen in Japan which is a country where there isn't really access to many black hair supplies. When I visit home I come back with a full suitcase of all the hair supplies I can get my hands on. But with COVID and everything the well ran dry and I already barely know how to do my hair since I've just been making it up. So I've been paying $500 every few month to get my hair braided at the only African hair braiding place I know in Tokyo so I can be presentable. I love braids and I'm glad everyone compliments them so much but it also sucks that they don't compliment my natural hair as well.

Kenithea Hodges

What time was that at??

Robert Khachatryan

not @somacnificent cutting all his comments off 🤣😭😭

Carlos Garcia

Jacob coming in to hug Bob melted my heart

M808

as an australian what’s happening in texas honestly terrifies me for our winters to come, we’ll be in the exact same position!! hoping you guys are alright and the storm passes soon!!

Razzle k

This is off topic but y’all see the new Carella Deville trailer. I saw online on blacks except that there is an argument or who would you think would be the best black Cruella Deville. People were saying Jennifer Louis ,Taraji P Henson,or Angela Bassett. What do y’all think who do you think would be a good Cruella Deville?

same. i think it's the best wig i've ever seen. and it is def growing right outta her head, too. those baby hairs are everything!

Denise Rodriguez

Somacnificent aka micahdamac has been scamming people for years I’m surprised bob even received a wig...there are many people on YouTube complaining about him

Maybe you’ll should state when you’ll filmed this. People think you’ll followed the full Gorilla Glue story and you’ll still calling her a liar. Also Monet I think you’re thinking about Softee hair grease. It used to be green and come in a clear jar. I think they switched up how it looks now.

Mel8235

Monet you're not alone, I too got an s curl and pretended my hair just grew like that lol

DoubleDopeDummy

i was so hoping bobina would pop that wig off at the end like monet.. woulda been cute. also i think bob looks great in a shoulder length with a bang!

I think there's space for Chris Rock to revisit the "Good Hair" doc and do a remake. I think him doing that when he did, really pushed black women to revisit the beauty of natural hair. It's amazing to see how much black hair has evolved since then. Also!!! I need them to talk about the creativity of black women and how they been able to evolve the hair community!!

Aw this episode is the stereo stream😓 I love y’all but dang

Bender (She.Her)

I’m SO obsessed with Mo’s wig 😍😍😍

Get Jakeyonce to expose those scammers!

Eric Wong

Monet, I stayed with the hair style from the 90s that you showed. Half twisties or braids with Bantu knots and a flip. I can smell the Spritz/Pump it Up now 🧡

Dolce Benjamin

somacnificent literally has their comments disabled on all posts, deffff sus

she does such an amazing job explaining black hair to this white lady!!

I am obsessed with the channel... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEGVIrrJzso

What a treat

Marco C

Is the fibroid thing real yall?! I am 33 and I have to have a hysterectomy next month because of how huge the fibroid they found is. It's the size of a 15 week old baby in utero. I'm like wtf on this relaxer thing because I had em from 10 to 25. Dreads now and if it's true my daughter will be natural forever as well. I was gonna let her choose at 16 but not if it leads to all of this.

Deekal10

Yeah ppl love to call Black women scammers, I'm sure they believe her now but I was hard pressed to see how and why she'd lie about something like that

I feel the same way, I'm so glad there's still ways like this to connect during this bullshit. Best wishes💖

Anthony St. John

They trying to figure out why they are bald and later explained how they both permed their hair...werq

Shaming?? Double standard?? 🙄🙄🙄🙄😒😒 Not this all lives matter/reverse racism argument.

And if you're using an electric shaver also exfoliate beforehand and use an aftershave, avoid electric shaving unwashed/unexfoliated skin because there'll be a lot of dead skin getting in the way that could've been washed off, if it's just been like a day since you exfoliated it should be fine though

Anthony St. John

I'm white but I have keratosis pilaris (skin condition of over-keratinization, basically I need to exfoliate and hydrate more than most people) so I easily get ingrown hairs or razor bumps from shaving if I don't do certain things, here's a few things you can try: 1) Gently exfoliate before shaving: You could use washes with alpha hydroxy acid (I personally find gylcolic to be the most gentle, there's also salicylic, lactic, others): these chemically exfoliate. I use a glycolic face wash to get any dead skin off that I'd otherwise have to physically shave off, basically a pre-shave. Or you could simply use a standard scrub, but be gentle. 2) Use a shaving lotion vs the standard foaming shave cream with high alcohol+fragrance, these will be less irritating/drying and condition your skin while you're shaving 3) Shaving relatively slowly with the grain one stroke at a time, after each stroke rinse the razor thoroughly with hot water 4) Use an aftershave lotion without alcohol or a lot of fragrance, anything that would dry or irritate, try and find one that specifically says for moisturizing/soothing irritation. 5) Keep watch of the blade sharpness, don't use dull blades: I can't use those plastic disposable razors they fuck me up, I use a gilette fusion and change the head maybe every 6-7 shaves on average, check to make sure the blades are sharp before you use it. Also apparently people have a lot of luck using safety razors because it's a single blade shave, versus a 3 or 5 blade razor which increases the chance of irritation, I personally haven't tried one though since I can keep irritation down with a 5 blade. Hope that helps a bit!!

Anthony St. John

it's disappointing that your immediate reaction is that tessica, the gorilla glue woman, is lying. black women deserve better. same for meg the stallion getting shot. black women are so disregarded.

For Black History Month Cypress College are running a series of online events about black hair called Hairtage: https://www.cypresscollegeart.com/hairtage-speaker-seriesspring-2021

I remember I had a perm so bad (my mom burned my scalp edges ). I had to wear headbands for months as a 8 year old in 3rd grade

Chantel

Love Monet posing at the end after she takes the wig off😂 you look great Monet!

Jasmine Sherren

Bob you look beautiful too

Monet looks so beautiful in this hair

Can I just say I do NOT understand why any white people would EVER feel the need to touch, comment on, inquire about, or whatever a Black person's hair. I am a white lady and it would never occur to me to breach someone's privacy this way. Really - what the actual fuck? As Bob would say. it's BANANAS!

So many eps recently yay also the girls are stunning this evening

Anthony St. John

representation for bitches that are bald at their temples

Victoria

i cant wait to listen after work!!!!

Staci Ertel

i hope you are warm and safe !!!!!

saj da

Did you used to pull your hair into a ponytail when you put wigs on? Bc that might be causing your hair to fall out

scammeron

If I put on a crop top can I get sibling tier access for cousin prices? 👀🤣🤣

scammeron

Ys

Monet looks stunning bald in that makeup!!!😍😍😍😍😍

Bob's barbershop story... I will find that barber and end him!

Luna Maria Luz

Definitely relate to Bob's barbershop experience. We desperately need queer barbershops!

Tres

The fact that the first couple of seconds feature bob and Monet confused with their mouths open somehow killed me

Love yall!!! Rewatching and listening to everything has literally helped me down here in Austin with no electricity & water. Love from ATX 🖤💙

before watching i was like they better be in drag for the one about "black hair" 🤣love y'all

When Monét took the wig off 😍, God she is just so fucking beautiful! Like she confuses my little lesbian soul hahaha

Kayla Haynes

The Roblox question killed me 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Thank you.

Omg poor little Bob! I actually got teary eyed. Love that Jacob came and gave him a hug! Growing up in a black neighborhood, but being white, I feel blessed. Never once on my life have I had the urge to touch a black person's hair or ask them stupid questions about it. I remember so many times being out with my father and especially older white women, always wanting to touch his hair and ask him if its real. For context my dad is half Guyanese and has always had super long, big, curly hair. Only recently him and I were talking about it and I never realised how much it bothered him. Bleh. People suck.

Kayla Haynes

Awe that story about Little Bob made me tear up. My mom would have whooped that dude ass if she saw someone being rough on my brother.

Megan

For an industry that claims it's trying to be more inclusive it makes no sense to me that they wouldn't hire more POC for hair and make up. They could pretend not to be racist by hiring POC for behind the camera stuff and they're too far up their own assess to even do that.

andrea faloona

I just have to say that y’all are PUMPING out this content. I swear I used to be thirsty for you ladies to release something, but now I can’t even keep up. Love it. Love your work! 💪🏾💪🏾

we don’t deserve you .. but I’m so grateful you think we do. You give me so much to look forward to .. especially right now during this all. I literally opened my eyes sad and with tears in my eyes this morning and was doing everything I could to retrain my mindset before a really, really big day .. then I got this notification .. and the tears turned to happy tears. ♥️ this community is everything and I’m grateful for it every. Single day! Love to all. And here’s to a good (even if tough) day! ♥️

Luna

Im white, but my dad is from Guyana and I have his hair for the most part. So I don't think I took after my moms white hair.

Kayla Haynes

This is the vlog where Monet had a hair piece https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5dfUPMutCs It’s also a great vlog I rewatch it all the time

This got posted right when I was going to sleep. I somehow managed to wait till this morning to enjoy it haha!

Kayla Haynes

They didn’t think it was cringe though, the sub put it in the “humor” sub category and everyone was nice in the comments

I am relating hard to Bob's story of having dreads lol I had dreads from age 12, to about 23 years old. In middle school and high school, having dreads, especially as a woman, was not cool. Back then dreads on women was considered something that "butch lesbians" did. I also live in an area that severely lacks culture. (Dover, Delaware) I was literally the only person, male or female, with dreads in my entire middle school and high school. And there were probably around 1,000 or so students. I got called Bob Marley, T-Pain, Lil Jon, etc. ironically after I graduated high school that's when faux loccs became a big thing, and then the same people who made fun of me were suddenly complimenting my hair and such lol

Empress Akilah

Thanks so much for all the work y’all are putting in

This was recorded like 2 weeks ago when the news first broke.

Mel8235

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ y’all are angels

THANK MOMS 🥰🖤🥰

Is it offensive that I laughed at 50:10?

Darcy

Black women can grow hair long just like anyone else. When you see black women with baldness its usually a result of hair and scalp damage. We aren't predisposed to baldness because we are black, its the chemicals that we may have used that damaged hair follicles. I've been wearing my hair natural since I was 26 after perming for about 10 years. My hair is long, strong, healthy and beautiful 4c texture. My daughter who is 15 has had Locs since she was 5 and her hair is down her back.

Tessica Brown "Gorrila Glue Girl" most definitely is real and wasn't lying. A black surgeon actually removed the glue for her free of charge. The surgery took 4 hours to remove it all.

My boyfriend told me his barber had "the talk" with him when his hairline got too far back lol he basically was like "yeah...make this the last time I see you in this chair. Go head on and let it go man lolololol

Empress Akilah

Stereo lives are great! btw some video with Bob's voice (what's the ytest thing you've done) ended up on r/tiktokcringe and people in the comments immediately recognized Bob. Queen of tiktok!

I screamed when you said Monet had a George Jefferson. The visual is killing me softly 😂😂😂😭😭🤣

gotta give it to Monet on this one! male pattern baldness is a sex-linked genetic trait carried on the X chromosome, which comes from your mother. Interestingly enough, color blindness is also a sex-linked genetic trait in that the faulty genetic code is on the X chromosome as well.

When are they going to make Bob and monet funko pops?? 🤔

I'm in stupid ass Texas so we (including 3 bad ass kids) are freezing with no lights, no water, and no clothing thicker than a hoodie. HOPEFULLY, this video will provide the much needed body heat from laughing my ass off as per usual. Love yall!!!

Deekal10

White chick here and I only wash my hair once a week, it's thick and red and wavy and way better on day 4 than day 1. Most white girls I know have thin hair and they look greasy after one day of not washing it. I scrub with a rough mitt I got from the Korean spa and everyone gives me such looks, 5 layers of epidermis goooone lmao!

Kelly in CT

Hi! Black person here (speaking for myself not all black ppl lol). Not taking your comment offensively but wanted to share my thoughts :) I don’t think that POC hold white people up as some example of what beauty should be…the elite whites have held themselves to the highest beauty standard. POC have always gotten messages that their beauty is weird, their hair is ugly and kinky, and their body portions are “too much”. Systemic racism is why white beauty is the standard, black women can’t go to work wearing their natural curly hair or a protective style without getting negative attention for “looking unprofessional”. Young POC girls who are starting to develop hips and breasts are disgustingly sexualized by white teachers or parents of white students. At least for me as a black woman, im not thinking: I need to do xyz to meet the ultimate white beauty standard. Im thinking “is this going to get me negative attention, are people going to make fun of or touch my hair, is this dress showing off too much body”. and in my opinion its not the media entirely that is manipulating us, these norms have been set in stone a looooonggg time ago

Bob had their brother looking like Snoop Dogg in Baby Boy at Six Flags and I live

lilcczar89

I'm old and yt AND I want to learn, but I know that online my comments are often taken the wrong way. If what I'm about to say is problematic in any way, please explain it to me so I can grow, don't just shout at me. So here goes..it makes me sad when POC hold white people up as some example of what beauty should be. Imo, white people are boring in the beauty department. I get not being thrilled the genetics that you were dealt...I have big boobs and most ppl think that's great, but they're my defining characteristic and I hated that!! I'm more than my boobs. I considered surgery to make them more like everyone else's. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I wish people, including myself, weren't so effing manipuliated by media about beauty.

andrea faloona

we need gorilla glue girl as a guest

c.

look to your mothers brothers. OMG, Bob, bald pattern baldness is genetic.

andrea faloona

Stop deleting your comments spreading hate and bigotry! Let them see you 🙃

YAY for answering my question 🥰 Also, to add, the gene for male patterned baldness comes from the women in your family. Not the men.

b nixon

I understand that! Honestly, I’m more okay with SOME white queens wearing certain black hair styles (as long as they are showing appreciation and not doing it as a way of “urbanizing their look”) than pedestrian white people. It does often times come off as black fishing or modern day blackface, so maybe just don’t touch it with a 10-foot pole. I get that dreads are more universal, so that’s not a style that I’m referring to. At the end of the day, yes, it is your body and you can do what you want, but we can also say that when it comes to using certain words that belong to a culture.

You know, I always see your comments under these videos, disagreeing and hating everything Monet and Bob says. It’s okay to have an opinion that differs, but you are constantly being a racist bigot. We don’t need fake fans around here. Do yourself a favor and unsubscribe. Better yet, stay a member. That’s just coins they are collecting anyway.

As a black woman, (pedestrian) white people wearing dreads, braids, etc. is okay in my book. Your body your choice, you can wear whatever hair you want. However I feel like white DRAG QUEENS going out of their way to "urbanize their look" feels very much like cultural appropriation to me, especially if that's not their general aesthetic.

Adrienne Arnold

Y'all was dead wrong about Tessica the Gorilla Glue Lady

Yup. People with the AR gene, found on the X chromosome, have twice the risk of MPB.

Kelly in CT

Congratulations on getting your masters!! That's a huge accomplishment 👏 👏👏

Kelly in CT

Woke up to this gift! Thank you!! Please, please post the video of Monét taking off the man weave!

Kelly in CT

Brianna L

EARLIER NOW? wow y’all really be feeding us

Gabriella Zamora

I used a disposable razor once on my face, and ended up with a skin infection because of ingrown hairs. Since then, I've only used clippers to shave/shape my facial hair. That was a painful lesson.

Clint Richardson

15:37 "I don't know why these black men are talking about hair when they are both bald as hell" that person knows they are wrong for that and Bob/Monet reaction is too much. I laughed so hard my stomach hurts

Justin Bruce

except that Chris Rock video is SUPER sexist.

Thank you for sharing your stories. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Chanel Hill

can we see pics of bob out of drag with hair pls 🥺

Christopher Morillo

Shit am I related to bob or does everyone got and uncle Scotty and cousin Jon Jon

Becoming a patreon during the pandemic has helped my mental health/mood lol ❤️ getting my food and bong ready 😌

Brianna L

There are directories for black owned and operated beauty supply stores online in your area, There are some in Atl but if I have to travel too far, I buy hair products from online retailer, not Sams Beauty or Amazon. It's cheaper and I don't have to deal with the terrible customer service.

Bob's hair is getting closer and closer to God with each episode 🥰

Dr. Pamela Chollet

Thank god you guys are uploading it here first. I usually listen to the episode on Spotify at 3am while I’m at work and then watch the video when I get home while I go to sleep in the morning lol

OWEN MCKINNEY

Gorilla glue girl isn’t actually lying. She posted a video of her at the hospital and then at home having to use glue remover to get it out. It was burning her and she was crying a lot so I think she actually did that.

Dante Arias

Last I heard the suspected gene that causes baldness in men is found on the X chromosome. So remember, your baldness is something you can blame your mother for in therapy.

Moxie Cillin

Wait, so that wasn't Monet's real hair at the airport? Omg.

Lmfao when you already listened to this on stereo.

Robert Khachatryan

Yes!!! I listened to Stereo, thanks for posting the video.

Mel8235

y’all treating us to good,

Marcus M

Thankyou!!!!

So glad that you all are discussing this! I actually just graduated this past December with my Master’s (in Merchandising), and black hair (specifically targeted marketing effectiveness of hair products targeting black women) was the subject of my thesis. I can’t even begin to discuss the push back I received on doing this study at a PWI (a liberal one at that), but I’m so glad I got the support that I needed and conducted the study. We really need this as a topic of discussion. Thanks for this content 🙌🏾

love you guys so much what a nice surprise <3
