Let me weigh in on this. To expect Mariah Carey, or ANY singer to sound how they sounded 20+ years ago is insane. Voices naturally deteriorate over time, sometimes faster based on use. Can Mariah still sing and sound good? Absolutely. Check her Instagram. Is she as consistent as she once was? No. The people who come down on Mariah’s ability are the same people who actually haven’t actively listened to her since 90’s. You can hear the difference in her voice in the albums after “Emancipation”. Here’s my unsolicited opinion : I agree everyone has the right to choose who THEIR divas are etc. BUT when it comes down to who a diva is everyone should be able to just unanimously agree; for example: someone like Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Beyoncé, who all are widely recognized for their notoriety when it comes down to how they are behind the scenes or just their attitudes while also being legendary & powerful women on stage.
