One of my old friends that I met at Uni was Lyon's nephew, and would tell me about having to spend time at his regular extravagant champagne pool parties he would throw while he was mayor, that my friend hated going to but would put up with because Darryn would always give him a very expensive vintage guitar or something if he came to hang out. Also a couple of months ago I was in Geelong for a family member's wedding, and was staying in an air bnb with my partner and their mum, and the house next door to the building we were staying in was Lyon's mayoral home, you can see the giant crystal chandelier on the front porch from the street. There's also a plaque on the footpath in front of the house that reads: "LYONSVIEW - Home of Darryn Lyons, 95th Mayor of the City of Greater Geelong, 2013-2016 World renowned photographer, celebrity snapper Mr Paparazzi and founder of media conglomerate BIG Pictures. [...] From humble beginnings, he created an empire that set a benchmark for the global media in celebrity culture. Lyons will be remembered as a passionate visionary, photographer, businessman, author, philanthropist and politician.
