Then, later, during the lab section of the class, the other chemistry teacher barges into the classroom and incoherently tells us about America being under attack and the White House being evacuated. My teacher looked at him, looked at us, and said, "Get back to work!" (Incidentally, the ground shaking turned out to be Flight 93 crashing several miles away...)

2024-09-26 18:56:27 +0000 UTCi was 9 months old on 9/11 (yes, you're old) and the first time i can remember really acknowledging it was in a gcse english class, we we're doing simon armitage's (pretty mid) poem about it, and for some godless reason the teacher put on footage of the people jumping from the windows on 9/11, and then the bell went and i went to maths class fuckin wild childhood, born in the dying days of clinton, not forming memories until well after 9/11, first forming memories in the wake of the financial crash, first political exposure being the 2016 us election and brexit, turned 18 in time for first election to vote in being 2019 uk general, show up to uni and in the middle of first year: bang, covid
