EARLY ACCESS: Sleep Token | Musical Autopsy

VIDEO LINK: https://youtu.be/uUm0CILfiVA

Hey everyone, it's Early Access Day, and it's an all new Musical Autopsy! And we're going back REAAAAL far today, as I talk about a band instead of just one song (which is what I did for my first ever Musical Autopsy, the "Kings of Leon" video). Sleep Token is probably one of the most talked about bands of the year, certainly a lot of you felt I left them out of the "Rock's Not Dead" video I did earlier this year, so... enjoy!

Doc Buckley heads into the Musical Morgue to analyze the catalog of Sleep Token, from their viral current hits like "Emergence" to their first song, "Thread the Needle". "REAL" Reviewers like Anthony Fantano and Pitchfork have basically called them baby's first metal band, but are they even metal? Or, are they so "genre-defying" that even they don't really know who, or what, they are?

I appreciate your breakdown of this, but I will say that it kinda surprised me! I'll honestly say I've been a fan of Sleep Token for a while now, but I did NOT know they were supposedly metal?? I even just went to my Spotify to look, and it doesn't show anywhere that its categorized as metal, not even in the "about" section. That being said, I don't like Caramel all that much, and looking at my list it seems that I pretty much only liked songs from the "Take me back to Eden" album. I can definitely see the point of view of "definitely not metal, and probably not even rock." I just came across them in shuffle mode and couple years back and thought they were some off the wall experimental band, and I like listening to them when driving.

I like Sleep Token, saw them live like 2-3 years ago and they gave an excellent show. I dont know the latest album but their live show was very diverse song-wise, very creative and a good balance of experimental but tested enough to make it work. Yes their studio stuff is overprocessed, which is definitely a flaw but then again I'm not the target demographic. If they serve as a gateway for some pop teens to get into metal- I'm fine with it. I say it's closely related to metal enough to call them metal. Metal adjacent. Babymetal has always been better though even if I didnt like the last album. It's Ghost for new generation pretty much. For me its a mix of Ghost, Interpol and Explosions in the Sky. I appreciate their lyrics, style and creativity, vocalist also sounds like me who didnt quit singing at the age of 12 so also quite cool to me
