Bonus #231 - The Draft, Fearmongering, and You (Extra Dose)

VIDEO LINK: https://youtu.be/8TaQTLEwfTI

Hey everyone, it's Bonus Dose Day! This week's video is really about how people use fear to spread misinformation. So, you know, just some fun, light comedy! Enjoy!

Buckley looks at how people fearmonger with half-truths and intentionally poor interpretations, using a recent decision from the US Government to... REINSTATE THE DRAFT?! That's right, BIDEN is going to send every young man to WAR! But before you start packing your bags or doing a few pushups to prepare for basic training, perhaps you should hear the whole story...

I'd be more worried about Australia (assuming this law got passed in parliament) but basically Australia is slowly making it legal for people who are not a citizen of the country to join the military (or be conscripted when they bring it back in the next time there is a war). I forget which nations they started with but the plan was to then include people from other countries into this. Makes it fairly easy to slip a malicious agent into the system and steal secrets (although in this day and age, you could just bribe a citizen who is in the military to give you those secrets anyway)

Just a note to add onto this topic, and pardon the poor grammar. When it comes to the physical and mental standards for service, I would debate that those standards wouldn't mean much in a time of serious conflict. I'm currently in the US Army, and speaking from experience, the standards have virtually gone out the window for Enlistment and retention. There's waivers for just about any condition, the weight standards are basically a suggestion at this point (there's some seriously fat people here on post, seasoned and new recruits), and the ASVAB test isn't even required anymore, you still have to take it but if your score is too low they will just get you a waiver for it and limit the jobs and positions you can hold while serving. The low recruitment numbers have been at 40+ year record highs for a few years now and they are clearly desperate to take people in. I feel like if needed they will find a way to accept you and find a place for basically anyone. Sure, they might not be sent to combat but rather stuck on some kind of guard duty or cleaning duty at a base in the states while the deployable people are sent off over seas. Most people would shit a brick if they knew just how soft and low the standards are. I have been in 4 years and the only people I have seen get kicked out either did something violent, or continually threatened violence or harm to them self or deemed a danger to others. Granted though, if someone has zero integrity or dignity and doesn't care about looking like an absolute POS they can manipulate the system to get kicked out if they play the mental health system right. We had a guy who did hard drugs, he was in the process of getting dishonorable discharge, he knew hot to play the cards and went to mental health facility on post and told them the only reason he did those drugs was because the Army stressed him so much he needed them to cope. Army health clinic and VA went "oh poor baby he's been through so much, he doesn't deserve dishonorable discharge." Not only did he avoid dishonorable, but he got granted 100% VA disability compensation for the rest of his life. He gets $4,700 a month for the rest of his life for doing drugs! The best part is, he was in the military for 1 year. Imagine the kind of standard that sets for the rest of us serving, he gets paid more than us for failing a drug test. This kind of crap absolutely abolishes moral, and combine that with the low standards and expectations and softening of the Army (like seriously soft, you can be written up for cussing because it might offend people, and I don't mean racial or homophobic slurs, I mean literally saying "what the f*ck" to someone can get you written up, this is a job field where people are expected to be in dangerous situations, even deadly, but cussing is too much for them?) I would be scared to see this modern Army in a serious conflict. Anyways sorry it's so long, just wanted to give some input related to this video. Keep up the great content!

Yeah quite a few countries have that where you basically have to uproot your life for a couple years or whatever, which... I guess if you get paid/don't have a job yet maybe it's not too bad but I can imagine it derailing a lot of people's lives.

Mean while in Finland: That's news? Just be happy there isn't mandatory service. Personally I don't mind. All things of value come with cost, service was mine.
