EARLY ACCESS: Buckley vs Apple's 100 Best Albums of All Time

VIDEO LINK: https://youtu.be/JbPPlfT9u3Q

Hey everyone, it's Early Access Day, and I'm a little behind on this one, but better late than never I think, as I finally make fun of Apple's list of the 100 Best Albums of all time. Enjoy!

Apple Music released their "DEFINITIVE" list of the 100 Greatest Albums ever made. So they put a lot of thought into what makes a great album and ranked them accordingly, and didn't just ask a bunch of pop stars (like Charli XCX and Pharrell) what their favorite albums were, and then blurp out a rage-bait list where Taylor Swift outranks Pink Floyd, Madonna and the Beach Boys, or Drake outranks NWA, 2Pac, and the Beastie Boys, right? RIGHT?!

Honestly, I don’t think this will impact Apple’s music service because it comes pre-installed on your phone and moreover, with the rate at which peoples attention, spans, diminish and new stuff comes along to make people upset. This is here now, gone tomorrow sort of situation people will forget it in the next 24 hour news cycle. Heck, I forgot this was a Thing until I decided to catch up on some of your videos.

It’s funny what you said about Amy Winehouse because my mother, a 64-year-old black woman literally does not get it. She thinks that it’s only because Amy Winehouse was white and they are far superior, jazz artists both black and white but she would always point out black women that don’t get any attention because they weren’t a British white girl that was trying to emulate jazz music. Now I personally agree that her death makes her bigger because when someone dies before their time, especially young, like she did only at 27 it creates a mystique around you and your artistry

This is why I much prefer Spin’s ‘5 albums I can’t live without’. It’s cool to get direct insight into what different artists enjoy and who inspires them, and the subjectivity of the topic is made much more clear. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Trying to create an objective "best of" list of music is futile, and labeling it "definitive" is just arrogant. I've been listening to the albums in order - mostly because it showed me how little hip-hop and rap I've listened to - and even as a total rap noob I find it weird that 50 Cent is ranked higher than Snoop and Tyler the Creator. For the record, I would be interested in Buckley's Top X Albums, whether in video form or just a list on patreon :P

Damn shots fired at ‘Nevermind’.

To quote Mad Max… “that’s bait”. This list is stupid, I’d argue that it’s very wrong, but it doesn’t deserve the hate that it wants.
